Should I mount case fans with zip ties question - Page 2

I thought of having rubberbands as an alternative to zip ties, dont know if they can be reliable, where does one find them anyways? I'm looking for better alternatives to what I have done, maybe the vibrations could be an issue although i ran the fan for some time and couldn't hear any vibrations. The fan is stuck to the panel of the case and its a silent fan that runs at 1000 rpm maybe more no idea. Before having the resistor cable and it being at higher speeds it was really loud, but I don't know if it was the vibration of just the fan.

All fan screws "carve" into the fan screw holes. The fans have untapered srew holes that when you screw the fan screw in it makes a thread.
Your normal Fan Screws:

I did notice the screw thing, they dont hold the fan probably anymore. Should i place a bit of foam on side of the fan just like i did with the plastic? To prevent vibrations?

Dont use twist ties in a computer, they contain wires in them and if a piece ever breaks off and contacts the motherboard... they are conductive do not use them.

zip ties are fine however because they can not conduct electricity.

Cable tie ftw!
The Zip Ties should work nicely, i have around 90 around my computer.
Just be careful if you have to remove them. ( I use a craft blade)

And be carefull a piece of your heatsink doesn't break off and fall onto your motherboard as well kookoo.gif

Slightly off topic: I spent years trying to quieten my old case's, rubber washers, foam sound dampening, quieter fans, passive cooling etc. What i've discovered is that if you want a silent pc, you need the quiet fans yes, but you also need a quality case that doesn't vibrate through tinny walls, loose screws, rivets etc. You really do get what you pay for.

I use twist and zip ties all the time. I prefer plastic coated twist ties though. Zip ties are to hazardous to have to change often. Cut myself or my PC worst case and thats not cool with me. Twist ties worst case may what, what my finger with an end if I dont use plastic ones like I do? I am not at all concerned about one of the plastic ones "breaking off" and falling into my PC ha.

oh ps about the hwole metal will instantly cause a short. I had my nose piece cushion sitting on my mobo metal side down when it fell off earlier.. not an issue.. Twist ties are all pretty hard to break unless you intentionally break them.

I had a piece of small metal thingy from the case fall off on when unscrewing it, didnt do anything.

here is the front fan, the one in pic is not mine, its the stock one but you get the idea:

3dfrontfan%20(Medium).JPG

and here http://img51.imageshack.us/i/p25fp.jpg

I don't think zip ties might work unless i use the double zip ties method on both ends. Will having foam on the sides surround the fan help stop vibrations? I'm not sure where to put them, I certainly cant put them between the fan and the case grill area it might fall off.

Alright heres a picture explaining what I meant:

screenshot-3v.jpg

A -- is where i put the two pieces of plastic that holds the fan by tightening the top space between the fan and the case.

B -- thats the space I suggested putting some foam to take care of vibrations, if thats what it does that is.

and I was wrong, I can do zip ties easily but I wonder if i need to when i can just leave it as it is?
