What would you guys do @ 1920x1080 - Page 4

I saw a gtx 480 for $235 listed on craiglist yesterday. If my 6950 wasn't such a great overclocker I would've return it and get the used 480. Buying a used card when you're low on money is a win win situation.

Thats a valid point but in my eyes buying new is a better option only because you have no idea what the person did to that card. It could of been abused highly & you wouldnt know it at least buying new you know the card has been taken care of

i made a mistake buying this 4890 on these forums from a user who stated the card was flawless & ive only owned this card maybe 2 months and its been Hell. its died twice & has more problems then anything ive ever seen before. One of the reasons I dont buy used anymore

1. died twice (had to be baked)
2. doesnt run DX10 games anymore I can only use DX9
3. The fan does not run unless you set a specific % 50% desktop 70% gaming
4. The fan now sounds like a small cricket

I understand all of your concerns & I am happy that you guys care really I am I ordered the 6950 2GB so I am sticking with it. I really do appreciated the help

Personally, I'm looking forward to a 560Ti myself. Now, its more than enough for me. But you may need the 6950 2G.

my 4890 has so many problems i dont know where to begin. it has died twice & been baked twice. It wont play almost any games in DX10 & it has a major fan problem where you have to set a % in order for it to stay running or it wont really run at all

as for that 300 dollar budget that is with this buying a new gpu + sending out my 4890 for RMA. which i gotta get sent out.

Even when the 4890 was running perfect i wasnt happy with it. I couldnt run real high settings in stalker, crysis or metro. So im my eyes with crysis 2 coming out I just didnt see the 4890 as a viable card anymore
Well, fair enough but a couple things to mention:

None of that was in your OP, no mention of the card in bad shape and being baked twice, nothing about you ever being happy with it.

And preferences are preferences - for my viewing pleasure, I don't need max AA and super-all-high-top-out-every-setting for all my games. Some people like more eye candy than others I can settle for a mix.

If you weren't happy with your 4890, switch sides, try Nvidia.

If I was down to my last $300 I wouldn't buy myself new shoes if I needed them, let alone a graphics card!

You never know what's around the corner, spending every last penny you own on pc's is stupid.

To be fair to the OP he did mention it later in the thread - it does pay to read the whole thread before posting.

To OP - I know you said you have quit your job so is it really a good idea to spend alot on a GPU, could you make do with a cheaper one for now if the 4890 is on its way out?

I think ill be ok Im getting 6500 back in taxes on the 22nd of this month which will be used for bills, food and such. I dont plan on not having a job for long. Maybe I could of gone with a cheaper GPU but what is there really thats cheaper that gives great performance but the 6950 2GB at the price.

I wanted to go with the 5870 but I get so many people that tell me not to because of certain things like Tessellation n such. So I figured screw it grab the biggest I could get for 280 & leave it as it is.

I got my portion of the taxes back which was 1500 so I paid off my credit card & bought this rig in the Sig which came to 676 with the video card. The way I see it the Rig is done now I dont need to do anything more to it at the moment. So now I can focus on more important things
