No saying you have to get 1055. The reason I bring it up because why not get more if you have budget. If the code still works, then 1055 is around $145. So you still can have a 890 boards such as BioStar TA890FXE or cheaper one if not OC. I think the DA unit is a good one. The gtx460 is a 160w GPU and 6850 is a 150w so you don't need a 700w unit if it is single GPU. If you do need a 700w unit, you can go for cheaper Antec TP-650.

Oh boy... not another 1333 CL8 generic kit
$14 cheaper memory (after promo code)
Crucial = Micron, Micron ICs = great overclocking

This with everything RabbitGT said (except maybe M4A79XTD EVO mobo if you don't intend to do SLI... or if you want to risk it with SLI hack which can work great on 790X chipset, even mine) and you win

Edit: In terms of case i would probably have chosen a CM 690 II Advanced.

Edit: th PSU is a good one, would have gone with the same also for this sort of build.

Edit: if you can aford it try and splash out a little extra for 1600MHz memory i compard my 1600 MHz memory with my mates 1333MHz kit the other day and there was a hughe difference.

Caviar Balck is a great HDD cant go wrong with that.
That doesn't make any sense? For the combined price of his mobo and CPU he could get a more expensive mobo and CPU? 2500k and decent board is like 350. For the money he could have the board, cpu, cooler and PSU. Try and atleast get the 955 Black Edition. If he isn't used to overclocking, that will make it easier.

And the memory shouldn't matter in game all too much. Though try not to buy crap. For like 10% more you can buy a decent set. You should be fine with a decent 500-550w PSU, just read reviews.

Stick with the 6850. as they are faster. The 460's can overclock nicely, but you can overclock the 6850 easily enough as well. If he games at 1080p try and come up with a little more and get a 560/6870.

Sandy Bridge is great, but if your budget is less then a grand you'll get way more for your money going with Phenom II.

I suggest to get a GTX 560 because you can easily fit it in a 800$ with taxes budget. And as for case the CM HAF 922 is also a nice choice.
