Thread Starter
Well, I was planning to purchase a new computer this month. Now that SandyB had a recall, and I am using my savings else where I am on hold until at least the middle of summer. So this is where I am stuck.

Do I still get the Sandy B or do I wait until this time next year for Ivy B.
My friend said that Sandy B is not the way to go especially since there was a recall. Said to wait for Ivy B as it will be better.

What will be so much better about Ivy B? I'm impressed with Sandy B.

There is still some life left in my old PC. She turn on......but doesn't turn me on

Thoughts?
Thanks

The SB thingo isnt really a biggie. Just plug what you use into the SATAIII ports if you're scared.

And if you can't wait just get it. It's a mainstream platform, so you'll get pretty decent bang for buck in my opinion.

I couldn't wait for SB even, so I splurged and got the older generation.

Would be helpful to see your current rig. I invite you to go into your 'User CP' found at the top of this page. From there, you can add your system details.

It is only certain sata ports with issues, and even then, the issue is likely to degrade over several years. Unless you plan to have more than a few harddrives the Sandy Bridge issue is a non-issue for you.

As for if you should wait...

What are you using now? 1156 in my mind is a 1155 replacement. Ivy bridge (2011) is more of a replacement for 1366. Unless you are going to have: A. Many SATA drives or B. More than 2 video cards, I don't see any reason to wait for Ivy Bridge if you are ready to build a PC now.

We're in the same ship... Imho, it might take still a while for the IB to be released, if you want to enjoy your new PC now, you should get SB as soon as the new Motherboards are back in stores. Especially if you're a gamer, 2011 seems like a wonderful year for PC!
