Lg IPS226 LED Back Lit IPS Monitor

post #1 of 12

So I went off base and saw they had a winter sale going on ended up buying 3 LG IPS LED monitors for $229 ea. Had no idea they were out yet. I didn't know that 24" monitors were so big so I went with the 22" version. The Picture is amazing compared to monitors that I did a side by side with. Plus they outclass my Sony Bravia.

Here is some specs;
* 21.5-inch display IPS Display
* LED Backlighting
* 1920*1080 Full 1080P
* 5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio
* 250cd/m2 brightness
* 6ms response time (G2G)
* 178-degree viewing angles
* HDMI/VGA/DVI connectivity

If you got questions about them let me know.

Yeah the color difference is outstanding. Had no idea, it was like that. Colors look washed out with white on non-IPS monitors.

Nice, I had no idea they were on sale already. So you bought them in Japan?

I don't know if you've got any games to test, but I'd be interested in how responsive the monitor is, particularly in fast paced games such as first person shooters.

Ideally, if you've got a reasonably good camera, take a photo with a high shutter speed of the "Streaky pictures" test (on the default settings) in PixPerAn. Only do this if you can be bothered though.

A lot of review sites, like TFTCentral, use that test to determine how responsive a monitor is.

Also how are the black and white levels? Can you see all the squares on this black test and white test?

I haven't calibrated it yet. But on the black test I can see all the black squares except for #1 and on the white test I can see all the white squares except for 254 & 253. The Gradient test is perfect. Box 4a flickers,

I will calibrate later and do these tests later when I get some time.

Thanks for the initial evaluation

Pretty much any/all LED monitors in the consumer market are going to be edge-lit. Only professional-grade monitors have full RGB LED backlighting because of it's extremely high cost to manufacture.

Pretty much accurate, there are a few full array phosphorus coated blue LED panels (Aka WLED, if I am not mistaken they were IPS panels) that Hazro put out but that was europe and from my understanding they did not fair very well in the professional market, however don't quote me on that.

RGB-LED doesn't matter, I was just asking about the backlight setup in general. Not all backlit panels are RGB-LED, some are just WLED. I just hate the backlight uniformity offered on edge-lit panels. Maybe I'm more sensitive to it than others, but it just really throws me off.

I thought CCFL was prefered over LED on IPS because LED can cause a blueish hue?
