IBM on Tuesday said that the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory will use IBM's next-generation Blue Gene supercomputer to enable significant advances in areas such as designing ultra-efficient electric car batteries, understanding global climate change and exploring the evolution of our universe. The new supercomputer will deliver 10 PetaFLOPS performance and will be powered by IBM’s multi-core PowerPC chip.
I am 100% against wasting money in space for anything other than satellites...

Watching Climate change is as pointless as trying to predict the direction the wind will blow in next... Monkey business..

I think governments have wasted plenty of money on foolish things enough that they should be held accountable for mismanaging money...

*Raises Fist* for New Government Now... Join the fight... raise your voice against the wasteful spending!!!!

It takes years to develop a chip, so, this machine will have been in development for quite some time. I doubt it'll make a difference whatsoever, unless it's cooled through water flowing directly through the chip. Then we might actually see it being developed for consumer devices.

Wow, when I think I have read the stupidest thing you are ever going to say I see another post that makes me think the exact same thing. You do realize NASA is only like 1% of our countries national budget right? And you do realize we have gained ridiculous amounts of knowledge in just our short amount of time from going into space right? If you wanna talk about mismanaging money look at the Defense budget, we spend as one nation more than 50% of the entire worlds military spending. Seriously the sad thing is people like you far out number the people that actually learn about things prior to forming an opinion about them. People who think like you are the reason this country has lost its position as being on the forefront of scientific advancement. You remind me of the idiots who try to block nuclear plants from opening just because it has the word nuclear in it without having the first understanding of how it even works.
