And you do realize we have gained ridiculous amounts of knowledge in just our short amount of time from going into space right? If you wanna talk about mismanaging money look at the Defense budget, we spend as one nation more than 50% of the entire worlds military spending. Seriously the sad thing is people like you far out number the people that actually learn about things prior to forming an opinion about them. People who think like you are the reason this country has lost its position as being on the forefront of scientific advancement. You remind me of the idiots who try to block nuclear plants from opening just because it has the word nuclear in it without having the first understanding of how it even works.
Yes!
Not to mention the Political advantages of being "Most Advanced Country."
In the grand scheme of things, that may not matter, But we live in a very Politically based world.
Besides, That kind of research, can even leed to breakthroughs in all kinds of science, like:
Medicine
Computing
Energy

To be honest, there is no end to what we can learn when we understand what the Universe is made up of.

Still Dont CARE?
do a youtube search for
Michio Kaku IMO~ one of the greatest thinkers alive today.
