Random disconects!

Running wired to the router. I'm ingame in tf2 and randomly, I lose connectionng for like 16 seconds and then lose connection to mumble and then reconnect. This is super annoying in scrims since CEVO is coming up next week. My router is some WNDR netgear, I think a WNDR 3400 w/ latest firmware. Modem is the motorrola from ATT. Please help! D:

Troubleshooting:

Is the router or modem or internet connection new? How long has the problem been going on? Did TF2 work fine at any point? Do you have any issues when you aren't playing TF2? Is there a large amount of other traffic going through the router? Other people using internet at the same time? I'm assuming if you are asking for help with the issue here that you haven't lowered the TCP timeout in your router?

First thing I would do is attempt to recreate the issue with the computer connected directly to the modem. If you can't get the issue to happen connected directly to the modem, you'll have identified the router as the most likely cause.

Router is old. Got it a long time ago at bestbuy. Probably sometime around 2009. Modem was bought in october. It hasen't happened back in october and I haven't gamed since then. The button ontop of the router has been jammed though and the blue LEDS flash on the top. I also can't connect my computer directly to the modem since I have other people in my house (sister lives w/ me and she takes college online)

This is the modem btw: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-224-_-Product

My sister does use the internet at the same time, and she torrents/web browses. This hasen't affected my ping though since I use QOS.

I have a similar problem. I called my ISP to run tests on my lines and hardware and they determined it is the router, you should get a new one

Will do. I don't lose connection in windows, but it does get super slow and then quickly loads to the page when this happens outside of TF2.

Turning off QOS lessened the amount of disconnects in game. I think it's the router
