Well after averting a financial crisis at home, and selling my 3 GTX480's I replaced them with 3 Gigabyte GV-N580UD-15I aka Windforce 3X cards.

Bottom line? They are going back asap. Although the cards themselves are great, solid performing cards in my application on the SR-2 they are basically worthless because of the cooler design.

ANYONE considering SLI or Tri-SLI should stay far away from these cards (all dual / tri fan setups). The problem being that unless you have at least one open pci-e slot between them to feed fresh air into the fans you will have serious trouble.

While a single card or even standard SLI (two cards) may be fine with *great* airflow, if you have them butted up against each other the #2 and #3 cards temps skyrocket and crash the pc. something with my EVGA GTX480 that never happened.

The middle card gets starved for air...... in a bad way.

Idle Temps:
Card 1: 36C
Card 2: 52C
Card 3: 44C

Load Temp:
Card 1: 61C
Card 2: >100C
Card 3: >100C

Clearly these cards in a single card setup are the bomb. In more then one its sketchy at best.

I would say ..... avoid these cards unless you're *really* *really* sure you wont be going sli or have your machine in a wind tunnel!

i hate you tongue.gif, that being said you should try and find a card that blows air out the back of the comp and maybe put a big fan in front of your cards blowing air through them, while not asthetiaclly pleasing i used electrical tape to mount a fan in my case and it helped.

If you don't have any other cards (unlike OP) then you can place them in slots 1, 4, and 7. The bottom card would drop slightly below the motherboard so what case was used would come into question. To get good spacing for my Calibre's I placed one into the bottom slot. It drops way below the motherboard, requiring the PSU placement to be at the top of the case.
