Here's a question.
Do you really think that his processor will offer the same performance at his resolution at both 2.3Ghz and 3ghz? Will an i7 fare no better than his stock Q8200?
If so, I you.
If not, then I have proven you wrong.

His CPU is a bottleneck.

1. Open task manager and switch to "performance"

3. Play the built in Dirt 2 benchmark
4. When done, instantly alt tab out and take a screenshot of the task manager and GPU-Z
5. Post screen shot here
6. We look at it

That is, no doubt, a CPU bottleneck. Do you have good enough cooling to OC? Then I'd do that. 3 GHz should give a decent perf increase, but I believe you'll have to upgrade to a newer CPU to remove the bottleneck completely.

It generally isn't a good idea to OC a quad on stock cooling.
You can try to OC without increasing voltage though. See how far you can get.

That 8200 is holding back ur 6950 , you should definatly see a big increase over ur 5750 ? dirt 2 i can run a smooth as butter on all ultra settings 1080p and 8xaa.

a 6950 DOES NOT max out in dirt 2 at 30fps , talk when you actuallly know something instead of giving people false info ... 6950 is more than enough to play dirt in the highest settings at 60fps at 1080p .... Its ur processor , these cards are not meant to be paired with an old quad .. it wants pcie 2.0 and a nice i7 behind it to ensure the bandwidth and power .

Ok, I was wrong.

But you don't have to be an idiot about it.

okay, look at these pics.... these will show you my Phenom x4 965... with CF 6950 (unlocked to 6970 specs)....

just to show you that im having bottle neck issues aswell with CF...

as you can see that at

3.5GHZ im getting 81.4
3.8GHZ im getting 88.7
4.0GHZ im getting 96.3

i cant take my proicessor higher without BSOD... so im thinking time to ditch amd...

i cant go sandybridge till they fix the chipss... im stuck with my bottleneck till bulldozer or fixed sandybridge...
