Graphics do matter.
Especially in RPGs, the graphics are part of making it feel like you are that character, if it looks horrible it eats away the experience, I'm not saying bad graphics destroy game or good graphics make the game even though gameplay sucks, but they are meaningful part of the whole experience that is the main point of RPGs.
Shooter games are more focused around gameplay and how your actions make stuff feel heroic, where graphics play lesser part, though they help making it look cool too.
Dragon age origins looked bad and I'm dissapointed DA2 makes the same mistake even after few years.
Not that I'm skipping it because of graphics, or at all.
I want and look for better graphics in shooters then I do rpg's. In rpg's I look for less graphics and more story and customizations.
I guess I'm like this b/c I started with Doom and Quake. So to me growing up shooters were the games that always pushed the graphical boundries while rpg's always looked worse but had more options and gameplay. In my opinion it's still that way.
