If you are comparing individual boards, yes. But if you are comparing brands, then the high-priced Gigabyte board and the high-priced Asus board will have the same (or similar) proportion of "enthusiast" or "knowledgeable" customers for the respective brands. Most brands have low-end components as well as high-end components. Although some things such as graphics cards shouldn't be affected by this, as there's not really a "high quality" 6870 or "high quality" GTX 480 or whatever.
