really, cause a lie this big would absolutely blow their pc markets foot off.

lets not forget that this is 64 players, and dx 10 or 11, and 64 bit optimized, how exactly are they going to port that?

They've given you a reason not to? Not defending DICE. They don't pay me to do that, but just saying.

Exactly. With all the crabbing that people did about BC2 because it wasn't BF3, making BF3 akin to BC3 will result in the end of PC gamer support for DICE.

I love how some people in this thread claim outrageous things (you know who you are) how BC2 was bad and BF3 will not live up to its hype that its getting.

Lets get things straight:
DICE NEVER predicted or thought that BC2 on the PC platform would do so well. They did not put much effort into it, thus there were issues with it at launch. No game can ever be launched flawless, even if its developed for that one particular platform. Some of you just cant get that through your thick skull. BC2 had flaws because DICE did not assume it would do well at all, so they focused more on consoles.

As for BF3, one prediction that can be made, they will put more effort into it because of BC2. Even though BC2 was nothing super awesome, beside destruction abilities and updated graphics, it sold very well. They KNOW if they mess this one up, the PC community will abandon them. PC community as not as brain dead as the console community and does not have the tendency to spend their cash on worthless games.

TL;DR stop predicting unreasonable conclusions of BF3.

All I know is I am more excited for this game than any I have been excited for in a while. If they can bring back the bf2 "feel" with improvements to graphics etc... It will be epic.

At the end of the day, what it boils down to is that DICE is not interested in burning the bridge between themselves and PC gamers. What most of you fail to see is that PC games tend to develop long-running communities, in part because the IP doesn't die with the hardware like it does with consoles. A given game's community has an expiration date when it is a console launch. Where is Halo 2 now that 3 and Reach are out? Where is CoD4 on the console now that MW2 and Black Ops are out? People clamber to the latest title launch.

Now, for the sake of contrast... How many long standing franchises still have a community on PC? Starcraft 2 was played for nearly 15 years before receiving a sequel. Diablo 2 is still played. CS1.6 is still played competitively. Can you think of a single Console shooter that was released alongside Half Life that is still even thought of today? Nope. The reason: Console's player base is a fickle mistress.

Any good PC game that has dedicated user runnable servers still seems to have players. Its pretty neat that you can still install your old favorites and have a blast from the past!

You just summed up the main difference between the PC gaming community vs. the console gaming community very well there. Us PC gamers are much more thankful and dedicated when a quality release hits PC, like Battlefield 2. It BENEFITS the developers to gain that relationship with us. Dice gaining our full support in Battlefield 3 will lead to them releasing expansion packs (BF2 received Special Forces, Euro Force, Armored Fury) as well as DLC (BC2 received the SPECACT kits) which in turn reaps millions of extra in profits from the same game which they already reaped millions of dollars in profits from. Console gamers typically hop from one game release to the next. Take Halo and Call of Duty as perfect examples. Halo 1 players hopped to Halo 2 and so on.

Not only that, Battlefield has always maintained its online playerbase for YEARS. Look at BF2; it is now about to turn 6 years old and the only reason it has died down is because of BC2. I have to add, though, that I bought BF2 in the Steam special holiday sale for ~$5 (just to support the developer, I have actually bought BF2 multiple times and given my old copies to my friends) and I saw that it had a nice playerbase boost from that Steam sale.
