Gigabyte GV-R587SO-1GD; Possible cooling failure.

Here's the product page if you want specifics on the card. It's a Gigabyte Radeon HD 5870 SOC, and I think whatever thermal conducting material is in between the GPU and the sink is failing. The fans seem to work fine, I've tested them at 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% of total speed.

The reason I think it's going bad is because things that are well within the card's ability to display are heating it to temperatures higher than they have a right to. Watching a YouTube video, and not even in fullscreen mode, pushes the heat up from it's idle temp of 47* C to 52* C. Older games like Far Cry (not 2, just Far Cry), and newer games that aren't full of resource-heavy effects like lots of water reflections and stuff like Sam and Max Season 3, are causing the card to peak at temps of 70+* C, and a couple of time have caused the card to shut down and restart the driver software.

This isn't a "stock" card, and comes factory OC'd, so I'd expect maybe one or two degrees higher than normal, but this is insane. Also, if you look at the product page, you'll see that it doesn't come with a stock cooling solution. If the fans on it are working, then it would have to be the conducting material, right? I mean, I can't imagine the copper pipes or the aluminum (I'm assuming that's aluminum) heat sink failing.

Anyway, on the chance that it may be a software + hardware issue, here's the rest of my specs.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Catalyst version 11.1a
4GB ram (soon to be 8GB, I'm just waiting on the other 4GB in the Post)

No, they won't service cards bought in the USA. They told me to send it to the merchant I bought it from, which was Newegg, and Newegg said that the "Warranty" didn't cover the problem as I described it, which was normal wear and tear.

I would contact Gigabyte USA office and check further into that, here is how to get a hold of them here:

They should have no problem RMA'n a card for you, it's under warranty.
