Did that before as well...the thing that perplexes me is that it'll run in safe mode all day with no problems =/

I would be thinking its a hardware problem then. You say heat is in check 41C seems nice and cool. Have you tried switch sata ports on your board? switch the cables even?

Yes, when I swapped out the hdd's in the past they went to new sata ports. Someone had mentioned before that it may be the power supply...but after 6 months, wouldn't of surely crapped out by now? I have tried completely new ram from another system, and it would continue to lock, so I am sure it's not the actual physical ram sticks and the hdd's. I have no other video cards to use to test it, but does it sound like a video card problem? I've rolled back drivers as well, nothing there that stops the freezing.

And again, it seems to be running fine now, after about 15 boot-ups last night, it's finally been able to stay on all evening.

This is usually an indication of a driver problem, or a bad program install that is loading at start-up.

In safe mode, windows loads only minimal drivers, and usually does not load all start-up programs.

I'd start by re-installing all your 3rd party drivers, and if that doesn't work, go into msconfig, and disable all the start-up programs, and then enable them one at a time until you find the culpret.

ok - so I went to msconfig in safe mode and selected 'selective startup' which loaded only system services...so I slowly go to the startup tab and checkbox those one at a time and reboot until it freezes?

also, in this mode, should I really have access to my catalyst control center? seems like that would be one of the items that should be disabled upon startup...just a thought.

That's actually kind of funny, because windows only loads a VGA driver in safe mode.. That's why the resolution is so low. I would take a guess that the native res of your monitor is not an available option though.
