9800GT or save up for GTX460?

Thread Starter
I'm slightly on budget and I want to get back into PC gaming again.. However, as you can see from my specs.. it's pretty old! I don't plan on going too heavy either, probably just source games.

I've been planning on getting a GTX460, but I really doubt it'd run to its full potential unless I upgrade the rest of my specs completely.

Right now, I can grab myself a GeForce 9800GT 512MB DDR3 for $75 flat, which seems like an adequate upgrade to what I have now.

Should I buy this while I have the chance? Or save up my money for a new rig altogether?

*looks at specs*... I would say save up for new rig...it doenst have to be top of the line either... but 1 gig of system ram and a single core cpu wont cut it too well

Ah, I'm VERY tempted but I live in Canada and I highly doubt the card would still be going for that price shipped! Haha!

GTX460 has good performance/price ratio but maybe not a good idea to pair with 3800+, plus it is a 160w GPU, you will be lucky if the TR2-430 can pull 22a on 12v. Even the 100w 9800GT needs to be careful.

Save Up for that GTX460, The 9800GT is obsolete as is.
1. buy gpu.
2. save for new system

or save for new system. ( prices only gonna drop.. )
2. buy new system ( thatll ull see a difference )
3. by a gpu. :]

u really wont see much/any of a difference with that cpu and 1gb ram.
if i was in ur posistion i would save for a new cpu motherboard and ram.
hey u might get a nice combo deal on a dual core + board n ram :]
