okay... yes I will get it.. but will the HX650W hold up to the specs I just posted on post#26

Also AMD likes lower timings? Should I get CL8 or CL7 1333? I am planning on overclocking

Your HX650 will do fine, it could run a clocked thuban chip with a pair of GTX460s.

Why don't you wait 2 weeks when Sandy Bridge starts shipping again? I mean a $200 2500k will be significantly faster than the $240 1100T. Or you can save some money by getting a 1050T. Only difference between 1100T and 1050T is clock speeds, which you can easily make up by overclocking.

Alrighty thanks

Now... I already placed an order for GSkill 1600 Ripjaws @ CL9, but I can always cancel.. but are these ram chips okay for OCing?

Edit: LGA1155 MBs will start shipping again? but how future proof is LGA1155, I don't want to spend $ then find out that Intel is switching sockets AGAIN. I choose AMD because its 6core, which I will benefit and AM3 IIRC will be sticking for awhile

It has already been confirmed by Intel that 32nm Ivy Bridge will be available for both socket 2011 (socket 1366 X58 replacement) and socket 1155. It has been confirmed that socket 1155 will be shipping within this month. I highly suggest you wait for P67 (socket 1155) motherboards to start shipping because you will regret picking up a significantly slower processor for $40 more.

Four core Sandy Bridge will still be faster than a six core Thubans in highly multi-threaded scenarios. A four core, 8 thread Sandy Bridge will be much faster than six core Thubans in the same respect. Also AM3 CPUs will be compatible with AM3+ platforms but not the other way around. AM3 will be dead by this summer.

I mean look at it for yourself, benches between a 2500K and 1100T

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=203

2600k vs 1110T

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/287?vs=203

It isn't even a contest. Don't fall for marketing mumbo jumbo, more cores =/= its better.

Oh.. wooopy ANOTHER socket? S2011... I'm really feeling AMD side right now.. I don't want an Intel fanboy telling me to get something.. I want something unbiased.. which is almost impossible..

I myself had a S939 then switched over to 775 then yea.. who knows..

that aside, I understand 2500k is much better than the 1100T but again, it is 4 vs 6, and with 6 cores, I should be able to multitask much much better

Edit: Lots of games on that benchmark, couple of multithreaded apps are still being beat by the 6core

Socket 2011 isn't replacing socket 1155. Mainstream and high end platforms. I'm just telling you your best options because SB will be shipping within this month. But if you wanna go AMD, I'm not stopping you so don't label me a fanboy. If you do go AMD, you should pick up a 1050T instead to save some cash because both will overclock to similar speeds.

Also, while 2500k is only four cores, if you check the benches I linked, even in multi-tasking scenarios, 2500k outperforms the 1100T. More cores doesn't mean its better. It's the architecture that makes the processor.

Bulldozer and Ivy Bridge will be shipping within this year so why don't you wait for that instead?

Sorry but I wasn't trying to call you out... anyways

I would like to get something now, and on top of that, my pocket is limited so getting Bulldozer or Ivy Bridge when it comes out probably won't happen

I believe you should wait 2 weeks for SB to start shipping to get the most out of your money but if you're dead set on AMD, replace the 1100T with 1050T. There will be hardly any differences at all. Thubans are highly overclockable so, 4GHz on both should not be a problem.
