Word of Caution Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme vs Nvidia GTS 250

Hey guys,

Recently purchased this GPU cooler and thought I would share my experience, in case anyone was wondering. Unfortunately for me I couldn't find any info on the compatibility of the GTS 250 except for the fact that the cooler "is compatible." Of course, that's with the Nvidia reference card so an individual's mileage may very.

During my install (XFX "GS250XZDFU" GeForce GTS 250) I noticed that the four mounting holes (on the card's PCB) for the GPU cooler were smaller than the standard M8 hole, preventing the GPU from being mounted. I had to use my dremel to mod the card by wallowing out the holes to the M8 size so the cooler would fit on there. This means I can never put that stock heatsink back on the card (to sell it or something) and it's permanently stuck with the Accelero. (Modding the card also voids my warranty)

Wanted to give everyone a heads up. Especially the GTS 250 customers. My friend is putting an Accelero on his GTS 450 (Fermi) by EVGA in a few days. I'll repost (or he will) about his experience.

Thats unfortunate. How did you mod perform btw? Temps okay or where you disappointed?

Addit: While I really dont care, you may wish to reconsider your sig quote. The mods may have an issue with its length. Others may issues with its content... its up to you.

Unfortunately, the mod was unsuccessful. Pretty bummed about that. Card is toast, wouldn't load into windows (stability issues...get to log in screen and freeze etc) and had a bunch of vertical distortion throughout the entire series of POST screens. The BIOS was also unreadable with far worse distortion. So, no temp readings for me. Switched back to an old 8800GTS 512MB I had laying around. I'll be buying an SLi setup of Fermi's next paycheck.

Yeah, on the flip side, it's tax season and I can afford to make some mistakes for now. I got my two MSI 560ti's yesterday from Newegg and threw them in...I absolutely love the setup and Fermi. Damn awesome.
