Do RAM timings really make a difference?

How much of a performance gain would I see with CL7 RAM over CL9?

For reference:

Timings can still be important on AMD. Biggest difference they'll make is in app/boot times (especially if you have an SSD) and memory intensive apps like Folding@Home, video transcoding

Your sig says mixed brands... is this in a 2x2GB configuration?
I'm assuming it's also generic 1333 CL9, in which case going to 1600 CL6-7 would be a big difference because AMD memory performance simply really doesn't scale well below 1600Mhz. The sweet spot, however, is 1600 CL9 (or 1333 CL7, which is about equal in performance and sometimes price, just usually not in overclockability)

Yeah that's my current setup I have a 2GB stick of Hynix and a 2GB Samsung. I'm planning on building a new high end rig rig pretty soon. I'm short a few hundred lol. I was just looking at RAM and was curious.

Do they make a difference? Yes. Do they make a noticeable difference? Generally not.
