Is "Notepad++" some kind of third-party "aftermarket" app?
Pay attention to me!

Yes notepad++ is a 3rd party app, but isn't needed to change the client.cfg.
You can open it with regular notepad or do it the correct way by using -configonly flag.

Just remove all the parameters you added in the configuration and add it in your shortcut.

LilChris is correct. you can reset all of your previous configurations by running this command: "Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe -configonly".

Alternatively, if you have a shortcut to run your Folding application, simply get rid of all the switches and use only "-configonly" switch to reset your previous configs.

Sorry, I should have pointed out earlier that you can only use Notepad++ to modify your config file. Notepad.exe (text editor that comes with Windows) is not able to read the config file properly. And yes, Notepad++ is a third-party text editor that is MUCH better than the regular Notepad.exe.

Here's my client.cfg:

Code:
[settings]
username=BammBamm
team=37726
passkey=*******************************
asknet=no
machineid=1
bigpackets=big
extra_parms=-smp
local=2

[http]
active=no
host=localhost
port=8080
usereg=no

[core]
priority=0
checkpoint=3

[clienttype]
type=3

Wow. Hey... I just copied/pasted the above into the reply box, using the "[code]" switch, and it ended up looking just like amang's "Notepad++" layout.

Thanks for the advice, all. I'll get this damned thing figured out one o' these days...

FYI, notepad.exe does not read the line feed (i.e. Enter line) in that config file, that's why you will end up looking at a bunch of texts without any line breaks. good luck!

Also, editing client.cfg in Wordpad (which shows the breaks) can corrupt the file, wiping all your data.

The safest and preferred way is to use -configonly, as Chris has been saying.
