SMP Console Edition: How do I change "-smp" to "-smp 7"? - Page 3

I always edit the params in the comand line... I'd rather have the config changed. Then I just run around and drop my clean FAH folder on new machines and start it.

You can get Notepad++ free from ninite.com I edit most things with it.

That doesn't seem like a bad idea, but for those on 1 PC its easier to have shortcuts.

Do you have any problems with smp 7 flag with 2 GPU clients? I thought you needed one thread per client? I've been using the 6 flag.

Glad you fixed your problem. Did you just add a 7 to your shortcut? tongue.gif

Go with -smp 7, it will increase your PPD by a good amount.
Only low end CPUs will need 1 thread/core per Fermi card, but the i7 series are powerful enough to handle it and not decrease your SMP PPD by too much.

Wellsir, it's early, so I can't really tell ya if ima run into problems or not, but I'm folding that "Big Kahuna ADV" as we speak. I was also able to run my other two GPU clients simultaneously overnight, but I think our 30-plus-pound black cat jumped up on my keyboard and locked-up the puter as I slept, so I had to reset the PC. mad.gif

I think what screwed me up was in initially configuring the SMP client to run as a service. Stupid me — I couldn't understand why my CPU was at constant 100% usage, even after killing the process! *L*

As far as changing the flag, I simply edited the config file via Notepad, then transferred the settings into my shortcut properties. I never could understand how to edit/get-rid-of the extra "-smp" that showed up in HFM until doing so. Very much appreciate everyone's input and "hand-holding" during my initiation into this fascinating Folding endeavor.
Thanks, all! beer3ef.gif

Sounds good; I haven't eaten a thing all day. Been waitin' on the FedEx Man to roll up with my shiny new Swiftech H2O-320 kit.

Don't laugh. This'll mark my first-ever exposure to introducing extreme moisture to quality electronics.
