Best Intel PC built - Recommendations needed

Thread Starter
I've decided to throw out my old Q8200 and built a new PC to go with my HD6950. I want to built an Intel pc with the best components... so, I need some recommendations on what to get..

Here's a list of what I want,

New processor
New Aftermarket CPU cooler
New motherboard that supports crossfire
New power supply that is capable of running 2 6950s(might get another 6950 in the future)
New DDR3 memories(how much is recommended for gaming?)
And a new computer case.

I'll be keeping my hard drive and my DVD writer/player thing(sorry I'm not sure what it's called)

What is your budget?

You can go for any of the i7s, if you want to OC like crazy you can get the i7 2600k, or even the 2500k. H50 is a great CPU cooler, Noctua D14 is a great one as well. I've only used ASUS rampage gene / extreme Mobos, but they do support crossfire and are easy to use. I'm crossfiring 2 5870s, and I have the HX 850 from corsair. It is a great PSU As for memory, I run 6 gigs and no game has caused me any issues. If you want a great looking case, with easy cable management and lots of room for upgrades / cooling.. there is the corsair 800D. The case is expensive though, but again it all depends on your budget.

I don't really have a budget, I just want a list of the best stuff I could get and then save up the money to get them. And I don't think I want to OC anything because I'm still new to all this stuff but I would like that I have the option to do it.

Since you ain't looking for OC, an Intel 2600 or 2500k would suit your needs. So if you'd ever start to OC, you'd have a good chance (with the second).

Agree with Rak, and I you can as well get the H70 (more cooling efficiency, but a bit noisier).

Corsair also offers a good choice for DDR3 memory. I'd stick with the Vengeance: high power, low cost. 4GB is enough for playing nowadays, 8GB would be future-proof though!

Look for ASUS or Gigabyte for the MBs. Low OC requirements should lead you to a middle range product.

Regarding the PSU, I suggest at least a 700W unit. HX750W from Corsair or Cooler Master Silent 700 will do.

Finally, the case: any of them will do, keep in mind that HAF series from CM offers a nice price/quality deal. Corsair quality is outstanding too, but comes with an higher price.

Will an Intel i7 2600k work on the Maximus IV Extreme? This motherboard looks awesome!

Always been a fan of the antec cases.

Anyways this is kind of a compilation of peoples suggestions here and a few items I picked out.

Remember this is all "budgetless" so things can always be tweaked

He doesn't need a Maximus IV Extreme.
Drop down to an Asus Pro, or go with a Gigabyte UD4 or UD5 depending on the features you want. I would recommend the NH-D14 and a G Skill set for RAM.
Asus is running too much on their brandname now adays and skimping on service/quality why I finally switched.
Corsair is overpriced for the same performance or below. The RAM will perform the same as G Skills. I have never understood how they can charge $25+ more for a cooler that doesn't perform as well as a NH-D14 or SA.
