Final Fantasy series is DYING. - Page 10

In a sense I can understand why you would make such a thread. I have played every game in the FF franchise (thats in english) and currently play both ffxi and ffxiv on a regular basis. There are many things about the franchise, that are moving in a complete direction than the tradition series. I blame that on Enix and the fact that they are trying to keep up with technology. Although the games look really good, after all the prettiness is there, there's no room for content/gameplay.
As a hardcore and longtime diehard fan of the series, I must say that witnessing this happening with every release is very sad, the games are lacking content in many ways. FFXIII was a great example of this....Very pretty, Great CGI, excellent soundtrack....but the game was just meh... being linear, and lacking any exploration (unlike ANY ff game prior) and also having an "auto attack" button was just not really appealing to me at all. FFXIV has been really good so far though, I am very pleased with the way things are in the game and I understand that more content will be released as time goes on. SE better learn from their mistakes on XV and go back to their roots. They need to scale back on the graphics and focus more on story/exploration/side quests....all the little things that make the game whole, and memorable and enjoyable. Kinda liek what they did for FFVII, the char models looked horrible, but no one cared because the game was just excellent that way.....AND another thing, **** these stupid CS's every 5 minutes! stop the voice acting! It makes the game feel weak and more like I'm watching a movie than playing a game.

I'm for a FFVII remake, HOWEVER it must be an exact 100% replica of FFVII for ps1. I dont want some stupid redone battle system, abilities... etc. While they're at it, I would absolutely LOVE a FFVI remake as well <3 <3 <3

Actually the combat system in XII was pretty much awesome for me. Well it sucked until this Lure or whatever skill it was came up (the one with the duck symbol). Until then had to control the nukes manually because they constantly aggroed each and any boss they saw:D. Most people didn't like the concept though I guess.
XIII combat system felt like a windows installer. Click Next, Next, Next and Finish. I sure hope they're not making this series any more casual than they already did. Otherwise I can lay back and chain our dog to the joypad.

Story wise most of the games were okay for me, except XII which was somehow boring overall. Even XIII was enjoyable albeit being very very linear. Did anyone else have a WTH moment when being dropped into the vast plains after countless hours of linearity?

As long as CS blend in the overall gameplay, voice acting actually makes the characters feel more lifelike for me. Although the cutscenes need to blend in the overall look of the game. It's rather offensive to see some really awesome looking CS and then being dumped back into some shoddy ingame graphics. Xenosaga 1 took that to a positive extreme, although the 45min CS was a tiny wee over the top. smile.gif

On a sidenode, Lost Odyssey was awesome. Brought back the pure story epicness of old that I so sorely missed.

OP I agree. If they just would steer away from the heavy grinding the game wouldn't be half bad.

It's the incessant grinding that makes me not like the game.

I remember playing FFX on ps2, after a few days into it I got gameshark, turned grinding off, MAN best game I ever played biggrin.gif

Or the fact that every FF game recently has sucked?
I can't speak for the more recent ones, The last FF I've played all the way through was X, played only a few levels of X2 and havent touched FF since 13, still haven't gone more than 3 levels I think.

The grinding in 13 is retarded... way too much. Don't have time for that.

I couldn't really get into any ff other than VII, VIII took to long to take off for me, I wouldn't even call 9 a FF it was full of kids, instantly killed it for me. Watched a friend play X and saw the ending, looked good but was ruined because of that.
I think alot of ppl look back at older games and say they were better blah blah, but I think its more nostalgia than story, look at link for example, princess must be saved and away you go....
I think games don't leave enough to the imagination anymore in doing so it displeases people because they filled in every void.
best rpg's I have played would be chrono trigger, FF VII, and chrono cross...

Theres very few older games that I break out on occasion. Older FFs and GoldenEye for n64 are about it. But yeah the last FF I played that I could really get into was probably 9 or 10. I haven't bought any since FFXI ( played a few of them but not bought) and I agree that the newer ones have been a let down ( for me at least). I was really excited about FFXIV then terribly disappointed. Also, isn't someone supposed to be remaking FFVII? Could have sword I've read about that somewhere.
