Damn son... sounds real tempting.. just walked over my tool cabniet saw some 400~2000 grit sand paper sitting calling my name...

Can I just not walk into local Intel headquarter and ask for replacement that way? I don't want to ship...

People that don't want messed up product?

If you've only had it a few days, return it. You don't need a reason, just say you want another one. Don't take no for an answer.

Find a local computer shop if possible. Quite a few will price match now since every online store does. I never shop online anymore. It's just a pain in the ass if you get something that doesn't work, and you don't have to wait.

BTW, I live in Taiwan... no frill returnd policy does not exsist at local computer stores.....

Only if Intel would accept return as such then I can do it. Can I exchanged a concaved CPU with Intel?

If your getting 82C with an H70 @ stock clocks you have serious issues. I can run 4.7ghz on my TRUE with the hottest core reaching 70C after 6 hours of Prime95.

I would demand a refund.

Intel CPU's are designed to be concave and coolers are designed to be convex to compensate for it.

FYI, the H50 base is convex out of the box.
My guess is that something went wrong when OP mounted the cooler. Too much TIM perhaps?

No, the cpu's arent made to be concave, it just happens that the way they place the heat spreader on it makes the middle hit the core. Let's say if it wasn't concave, you would have massive problems.
Lap it.
Seriously. Processors don't "break" so you wont be using your warranty anyway.
Just lap it, as Intel will NOT give you a non-concave one just because you want one.

Same same

But anyone looking to sell their CPU later would want to avoid lapping it.

I seriously doubt that lapping would help on a concave cpu as you would have to do massive lapping to achieve a flat surface. Try to return it just give it a shot and see what happens. Just my 2 cents

The only "easy" way out of this would be to use Indigo Extreme metal based thermal paste.

damn you guys... I am lapping it right now as I am typing with one finger. worse comes to worse.. spend another 300 USD. will post pixs and results give me two hours. I have been sanding with 400 grit for 1 hours now.. still see nickle in the midddle.. damn it's concaved like a m*ther****er...

lapping is a road of NO RETURN!
