16:10 monitors, disappearing or not? - Page 5

Amazing explanation truly!

All being said, I wouldn't mind if they could fix on one aspect ratio for good.
My monitor is 16:10 and my projector is 16:9. That alone combined with the weird nvidia drivers in terms of HDMI color range feels just plain messy. sozo.gif

Let me break it down for you. Never once did I say, "games SOMETIMES have wider FOV" if you would actually have read the ENTIRE sentence, it reads...

However, there isn't necessarily a loss in FOV in video games, sometimes 16:9 can even offer a wider FOV than 16:10 with hor+ games.

Now, where you are failing is not the sometimes part it's another word. So, here's a word you can start nit picking on; WITH - W I T H. It is a fact that in hor+ 16:9 will offer a wider FOV. But 16:9 can never always offer a wider FOV. Why? Well because there are some games that are vert- biased.

I am not saying 16:9 sometimes has wider FOV in hor+. I am saying sometimes, 16:9 has a wider FOV and that is with hor+. You get it now, kid?

Now, whether there's more hor+ than vert- games out there, save that for another argument.

I'm majoring in Geography, not English. So please do not force me anymore to teach you reading comprehension. It hurts me.

I didn't mean to start an argument.

I knew what you were saying. You just made it sound like games sometimes have wider FOV, when they have hor+ scaling (like that hor+ scaling was rare. It's the most common one)

I'm sorry if I offended you.

Just... I misunderstood your original post. Sorry for that and forget all of this. Okay? smile.gif

The only thing I can see that 16:9 has going for it is that it's less GPU intensive other then that it's basically the same except for maybe a 5% to 10% improvement in image clarity, I also wish they would release some higher quality 16:9 panels.

It uses less pixels to form the same image. = less image clarity. 1920x1200 has more image clarity than 1920x1080. 1920x1080 has more FOV most of the time

Higher quality? DELL U2311! Do you need more for such a low resolution? (Not even thinking bout plasmas here. I won't mention them)

At least in the near term future there will always be 16:10 monitors. There is a demand for them so at least some manufacturers will produce at least a couple models.

The best kind of monitor you can get is 16:10, a 30" 2560x1600, IPS or PVA monitor.

Also, the difference in FOV that all the 16:9 supporters bring up is really small. Seriously, take a screen shot of both and compare them, the difference in what you can see is very small.

The cool thing about a 16:10 monitor also is that if you really want to play a FPS in 16:9 you can just use 1:1 mapping and play at 1920x1080 resolution. You'll have small black bars but you'll be able to use the wider FOV if you really want to and then when done go back to 1920x1200.

IMO the real issue here is that the general public has been fooled into the "Zomg FULL HD 1080p pwnage mega contrast!!!" trend.. When in reality, it's all just the same old crap repackaged. If the average consumer was more knowledgeable, we'd probably have better monitors for average monitors out there.

This is the real truth. I work at a computer repair and retail shop. When customers come in for a monitor they either:
A. Don't know anything about a monitor other than that they come in different sizes
B. Want an "HD" monitor, which if they've done any research they believe means "1080p".

I always try and educate them on the differences and sometimes someone will listen and I can get them to an IPS panel or ever a 16:10 panel (only if it suites their needs minde you). Still, the cheapest monitors are 16:9 and in the end people usually buy the cheapest solution there is.
