motherboard or cpu?

Thread Starter
Hello everyone i want to upgrade either my cpu or motherboard. What would you do? i have been thinking about this for quite some time now

Also i don't think my 2nd dimm is working. Windows is only showing 4gb also in the bios and cpuz. i have tried different ram modules still no go. Maybe there is something i need to enable in windows?

u r gud with what u have why u want to upgrade, the lga 1156 i7 8xx/i5 7xx and lga 1366 i7 9xx are still the most powerfull desktop processors available except sb.........i would say hold it untill ivy bridge and bulldozer arrives then think of upgrading if u want....right now its a waste of money.........

I'd get a nice 1366 motherboard.

and to test if it's the 2nd dim, put only one stick of ram in and make sure it's in the slot you think is bad. That's an easy way to tell. Oh and use the same stick that's in it now, it might be the RAM stick that's bad.

When someone takes the time to ask a well written question, it's considered polite to answer in an equally legible manner.

This kind of thing really drags down the quality of discussion.

Apologies for going off topic, I'm not a grammar Nazi, but this is ridiculous.

i never new about the ivy bridge coming out ghost thanks for the heads up, when is this due? ivy bridge will run on 1155 pin motherboards so probably pointless in getting a new motherboard. The second dimm is broken

ivy bridge might come out in q3/q4 2011 and bulldozer probably within 4 months from now......and about broken dimm....i think 4gb is fine for a whle...or u could try and see if its really the dimm and not some bent pins on ur mobo or some other random problem.....
if u want a clear solution to the dimm problem make a separate thread and explain whats happening......
or as rahul stated u could rma ur board if its under warranty which im sure has to be....
see all info about ivy bridge
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Bridge
ya its within this article just search.....
