A month after release the game was dead already because 50% of the players are using cheats. mad.gif

TBH the anti-cheat was bound to be terrible. Cryengine is basically MADE for mods; as a result, its very easy to exploit. When Crysis 2 first game out, you could literally use a text file to make a hack. As long as you knew were to put it, and what to write in it, you could basically force super-jump, super-speed (like 100m high jump, 50x speed, etc.). Yes, it worked (I found out about it - didnt use it, was a proof-of-concept thing that I did for 2 rounds). Then when I realized how exploitable it was, I emailed Crytek about it, and never heard from them. About a MONTH later they patched it.

The thing is, that "exploit" was just common modding knowledge. You just had to extract the player config file, make a folder structure mimicking the .pak, place the new config file in there and edit it. As Cryengine takes values from non-pak files FIRST, it would take the edited config file to be the real one. For some reason, player data (like damage, jump height, etc.) was all client side, so anyone who knew how to mod Crysis 1 could pull of a high-level hack in seconds. It was dumb, and yes, bound to fail.

Honestly, I miss 2007-Crytek. They demoed INSANE tech (I remember Cevat talking about normal-mapping tress, and him saying "I mean, who normal maps trees?"), really focused on the community (TONS of mod support, pre-SDK) and modding. You could tell the game was ground-up made for the community. By default you could do basically anything in the console, all the commands were unlocked, the game files were all typical things like .txt, .cfg and the archived files were just renamed .rar files. Textures were .bmp and .dds, models were still in .max format, the editor WAS IN THE DEMO, the beta supported .cfg tweaking, the final game had the editor right on the disk (no download needed), the list goes on.

You could REALLY see the change when they switched to consoles. The focus went more to advertising (that Nathan guy), and all sorts of buzz-talk: "be the weapon" - "verticallity" - "action bubbles" - the list goes on. I cant think of a single catch phrase for Crysis 1; maybe "frozen paradise", but that was only used a few times to describe the art.

I'll try it out.

I installed dx11 and the high res pack. I did notice that i did not have them enabled so i take back my previous statement. The game is much better now. The hd pack really makes a difference.

If you aren't using MaLDoHDv3 then you still aren't playing it anywhere near the best wink.gif.

And I think this game is underrated.

I concur with both of these statements completely....

Which leads me to my present predicament.
I just got my new build together day before yesterday. I loaded up Crysis 2 then started downloading the necessary ingredients to install BlackFire's Mod 2. I got to the point of needing to load up MaLDOHDv3b but all the links on the Crydev.net web page are broken. So I googled it and found a link on fileplanet that was working but it is a 506mb download and the download on Crydev says it is 812mb. The last time I used this mod all the links worked on Crydev and the game was amazing looking. If someone could either post a link to the 800+mb download or tell me that they have used the download from fileplanet and the game played I would appreciate it. Also if anyone knows of a link to BlackFire's Mod 2 that works I would appreciate that as well because I am about 90% sure that I got both of those downloads from megaupload the last time I installed these mods and I am expecting the link for BlackFires mod to be broken as well. Thanks in advance for your time and any light you can shed on this for me.

I downloaded all the mods from that link. 19 June 2012.

Just installed the MaldoHDv3 + blackfire + QM (You need to have Windows media player installed for maldo to install properly, it gives an error otherwise.)

OMW, the game looks amazing, and after using those settings in the Maldo HD config utility, I just maxed everthing, thinking: HERE comes lag.

to my suprise the game runs better with the mod. 60 fps constant. Tessellation on everything is great. using GTX670 @ 1440x900

Also my VRAM of 2GB is maxing using 2GB constantly according to EVGA precision whereas before it was 1.5GB usage(no mods), with maldo it's 2GB usage.

Im super impressed at the guys modding it. Also the guy making the Maldo mod is actively working on version 3.0c, check his blog: http://maldotex.blogspot.com/

I've been wanting to play for the LONGEST time now but its saying that my key ran out of activations. I've gone to help.ea.com, and I've logged into my EA account, but for some odd reason I keep getting into a loop to where I can't get to the live chat. I've tried different browsers and different PCs. I'm guessing something is wrong with my account. Any ideas?

Since 3 is around the corner and looks pretty interesting I decided to dust off the free copy of Crysis 2 that I got a while back. I installed it and noticed an incredible amount of input lag even with V sync disabled(which frankly I would rather leave on over get tearing) using my Mouse and Keyboard and even on my xbox 360 controller. I was wondering if there was a way to disable pre render frame or anything like that. I have mouse smoothing and anything of that sort disabled. Mouse was tested plugged in(g700 so it goes wireless) and the controller is a microsoft brand wired xbox 360 controller which the game took plug and play on first boot. I apologize if this was already covered somewhere in the thread. biggrin.gif

PS: Ultra > Extreme in graphics settings?

I actually started playing it again, Maldo and or MP. I think what makes me really discouraged about Crysis 2 MP excluding the obvious unfixed hacker problems, is the lack of direction it has. As much fun as it is spawning in random spots ( sometimes favorable, sometimes not ), it gets old really fast. Even the modes that have the pods you defend just feel so simple and thrown in. Is this really as creative as they can get? The concept of the suit powers at least makes this game a little different than most shooters, however they are not taking advantage of it outsides basically random death match.

Not to mention one of my current peeves about recent games is that you cannot take more than a few hits. What ever happen to the good old days when you actually felt like you had a fire fight rather than just getting shot in the head instantly ( and at times randomly )? That is a vent about a lot of today's games, but oh well.
