Worth Moving from TX850 to a AX850?

Thread Starter
Considering upgrading my PSU, though not sure on three things.

1. How much should I be able to sell my current PSU for?
2. Are the AX series really that quiet?
3. Are the power consumption figures that much lower?

The reason why I am considering change, is lower noise, better power consumption and modular design.

All opinions are welcome.

I did change my old TX850 for a XFX 850w Black Edition, so why not.

The AX850 is superior but unless you can't stand the lack of modularity it isn't really worth it. The differences in efficiency would probably be unnoticeable. As for the fan, it doesn't spin up till about 300w AFAIK so it would be fanless most of the time as your rig consumes very little power (400w could power it).

As for selling second hand PSU's, I've never done it myself... but Phaedrus has complained of the difficulties in selling his second hand PSU's in the past.

I agree with Gameboy. Unless you have a buyer lined up for the TX and you can cope with the non-modular cables on it, then swapping to the AX won't change too much. You'd save maybe a few percent of your PC's power consumption, which is only a real gain if you fold 24/7.

Agree with members above, you may end up selling the tx850 at $85 and pay lot for a new ax850.

More like $75, likely. My TX750 sold for $65. Though he may get lucky.

Excellent, thanks guys for the feedback.

I will stick with the TX850, which tbh has been faultless to date.

I wish I would have saw that for sell. I would have given you $70 for it.
