Did my 570 or i7 just die? - Page 3

"Shorts" are generally instantaneous and do not take time to manifest.

In this scenario I would attribute the damage to overheating over a short period of time as the thermal load increased. Perhaps some of the ancillary cooling (i.e. VRM's) surfaces were not making complete or full contact.

Also, did you disable the OCP power limiter? And also what was your voltage set out and what were you doing at the time it fried?

Yeh, I know how bad water can be. I'm just trying to pinpoint the problem so I can fix it. While doing the initial leak test last night (power off) there was a small leak from a fitting I didn't tighten well enough. I fixed that and I was sure all the water fell onto a paper towel I had set up, but it's possible that some of it fell onto the GPU (through the EK logo on the backplate) and didn't fully dry over night.

I guess there is no sense worrying about it because I'll need to do a new leak test once I get a new card anyway. I guess I'm glad I found the problem, but I'm also pretty annoyed obviously (first WC or even hardware mishap in years). Guess I will let it dry for the day and give it one last try, but I obviously need to find a new 570. Sigh.

Thanks for the help guys.

Just for clarification - if water was ONLY found between the backplate and the top of the card, there is almost no way that the block itself leaked right? Even if it leaked up through screw holes, it would have certainly also leaked out/down from the bottom side.
