How much of a difference will a soundcard make for me?

Thread Starter
I am running from my on-board realtek pos.

Here is a pic of my set up really, I just have this massive 400W (I think) noob box sony that imho does what it should do perfectly connected via regular auxiliary audio cable. I have parties at my house a lot and this thing shakes the windows just fine (for $200, don't hate).

I don't have much money to spend, but around $50-60 can go to a sound card, would it make a difference though? Which card does the average audiophile recommend for this application?

Thank you in advance, and reps for all!!

EDIT: please ignore my face.

CLIFFS:
-in need of better sound quality/crisp processing
-would a card make a diff, or should I stick to on-board
-My speaker setup is a Sony LBT-ZX6

I bought one of these for sale for $300 a couple of years ago for college parties. Its a solid partying and gaming machine, but the SQ on the thing is inferior than other bookshelf speakers I have at home.

I remember connecting it to my Barracuda AC-1 at the time, and could not really hear a difference. That is not to say you wont either, but from my experience, an amp will not help with the sound quality on these Mini Hi-fi component systems.

Btw: Nice triceps. tongue.gif

No, soundcard will make no difference. An internal sound card is a very bad route for upgrading sound in the first place.

Not much will help "party" or "boombox" style systems like yours anyway.

I just bought a creative Titanium card.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102024

I'll let you know in about a week how much better it makes games like BFBC2 and Music.

I almost bought a USB headphone sound card but opted for the internal with more features.

Better to get a nice USB DAC (iBasso D2+ is great as it's portable and can act as headphone amp, DAC only, or both.)

the sound is also only as good as the wires connecting it to the sound systme... if you use the black things that are like bell wire, expect poor sound..... invest 10£ in a good cable to connect the 2 then try and listen between botht he cables it makes one hell of a difference.

shoot just thought that i should alswo mention sampling rate...

go in to control panel and to sound and i think its in there you can raise the level of sampling... so it will play at better rates....

i woul get yourself a cable first and then tweek windows... then get soundcard.. if your not happy..

but you would be supprised how happy most are with the onboard sound.

Hey, it sounds like you're pretty satisfied with what you have now. I'd say save the cash up until you can buy better speakers.. or just save it for more beer. We use some similar bookshelf type speakers for our college parties as well. I had nicer speakers, but honestly those were nicer just for me personally to use (movies, games, etc)... with lots of people you basically just want lots of noise. I'd recommend playing with the EQ if you already haven't on your onboard sound and it will breathe some life back into them.
