To Blizzard: Take your time, do it right, and release it on your terms. The true fans of the game will still buy it, when you do bring it out.

This has it right. Main issue is that the original fan base is quite a bit older now and the majority of them have other responsibilities to deal with: university, jobs, families, ect... They are going to have to market the game to a whole new market, which is flooded with console players and such. I say good luck.

Diablo 1 is a very dark and gruesome universe and Diablo 2 is no exception either. I have faith they will recreate the addictive game play we have all come to know and love. I just really think the brighter color palette will destroy the evil twistedness that the art direction should evoke.

The problem is that cartoonish look to the colors. Even the scenes that are dark don't look black and grey, they look purple and blue because the colors are way oversaturated. I'm perfectly fine with a game taking place in a bright desert (act 2 anyone?) as long as it doesn't have that saturated WoW-ish look to the colors. I'm equally as content to have it take place in snowy mountains a la act 5 or in some plain jane green fields like act 1. I don't have a problem with color, I have a problem with the color saturation.

I think the graphics look almost cell shaded.

LOOK!

VS something like this:
These two pictures capture what I mean quite nicely. Diablo 3 looks purple. It's all hazy and the definition of the geometry is not there compared to the D2 shot. Harrogath isn't a pitch black dungeon, but even with the 10 year old graphics technology I think it looks worlds better artistically within the Diablo context. A lot of people misconstrue what we are saying about the art style as meaning "it has to be dark all the time". It doesn't, it shouldn't look cartoonish like WoW does.

What it really needs is an art style like Dragon Age only with an overhead view.

i think it's all about timing. The wont want to release something that will compete against WoW as far as a PC multiplayer game.

Just like with SC2?

Ie : Release base game and start making 2 expansions immediately to milk it.

SC2 turned out fine, there are still some balance issues but they are being worked on atm. As for exp, they are going to be adding to the game and SC2 as is, has as many missions as the first one so it's only fair to cost the same price

As for DIII, I'm pretty excited, hopefully it gets released this year

Why would Blizzard want to release something that will compete with a game that brings in most of their profits?
