I was playing Counter Strike 1.6 online, and the computer suddenly went dead!

And it won't turn on. At all.

Could the PSU have died out of the blue? It's a 700w unit, more than enough for my system!

Holy Crap... What if it took the mobo/CPU with it?

I have no other PSU to test it with!

Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

UPDATE: Motherboard = DEAD

No sig rig for me until April, because of Cougar Point recall

So many awesome games coming out, and I'm stuck with my netbook.

What do you mean my it won't turn on. Do the fans start spinning at least?

An easy way to test the PSU in to completely disconnect all the cables, and connect the green wire and any black wire together with a piece of wire or a paperclip on the 24 PIN cable.

Then just flip the switch on the PSU and see if it turns on.

Totally! :/

New info: There's power to the mobo, the Power and Reset buttons are lit up. So there's defintely power delivery to the motherboard.

It simply won't turn on.

I can't believe it went dead like this :/

How old is it? Possibly an overheat somewhere.

(or maybe, your 8pin or 24pin power connector was just loose enough...check connections)

edit: check 8 pin cpu connector. try the power button on the motherboard.

a dead powersupply can still light the LED's.... Get a tester, try your PS in another machine if you can, or try a new one in ur machine.

Use a paper clip and jump start the PSU just to see if its fine. If its alright go on removing the RAM sticks one by one and test out all the components on another PC till you can pin-point the faulty component.

Here's another thing, just unplug the PSU off the wall, put it back in and boot.
