[G4TV] Call Of Duty Multiplayer Fee Coming -- Analyst Michael Pachter

Thread Starter
Just a little something to piss you off on your wonderful Friday afternoon...
Quote:
According to Wedbush Securities video game industry analyst Michael Pachter, you will be paying to play Call of Duty games in the future.
Yesterday, along with the dismantling on the Guitar Hero franchise, Activision announced the establishment of Project Beachhead, a studio focused on "on the delivery, digitally, of new, innovative Call of Duty content and services" that will "enable tens of millions of players around the world to continue to enjoy the experience that Call of Duty offers." While Activision didn't go into practical detail about what that will mean for gamers, Pachter says it all adds up to pay-for-play CoD.
Source

Saw this one coming from a mile away... I'm pretty sure everyone did. I hope Respawn Entertainment puts out something incredible that just blows Call of Duty away and ends that franchise, putting a dent in Activision's wallet. I know Battlefield 3 is going to be awesome, but I don't think it will be enough to bring down CoD.

I can't wait for this to happen, it will kill the second head of the three headed monster that Activision has become. While BF3 probably won't be enough... yet. If pay to play multi-player makes it's way to COD, expect it's next iteration to flop instantly.
DICE and Respawn should collaborate on a military shooter, if they could get it out by the end of 2012 or early 2013, it would probably be the nail in the coffin for a COD with pay-to-play multi-player.

But hopefully the trend won't catch on, I don't need my multiplayer games bringing forth the idea of a virtual arcade complete with change machines for dollar bills... oh wait xbox live.... nvm

Wow, just when you thought Activision couldn't do anything else to drive away more players, they announce this...

I'll see it when it happens, but in the wake of it actually happening, there will be more games ready to nab the unhappy gamers with alternative games.

All I can do is LOL. I want to see what players will say about this

I almost cared, then I remembered I don't own any CoD games. The only reason I would ever buy a FPS is for multiplayer, I wouldn't bother if it had a fee.
