[G4TV] Call Of Duty Multiplayer Fee Coming -- Analyst Michael Pachter - Page 9

Activision publich a new COD game every 12 months, and each game costs $89.95 new. Now if they move to pay-to-play, as long as the monthly payments are $7.50/month or less, there is really no difference in cost to those who only ever played the game for <12 months before upgrading to the next COD release.

It could also be a much cheaper option for those who played the game for only a few months before they got bored and never played it again - you could pay for a few months and then end your subscription and move to a different game and possibly spend less money on those few months of pay-to-play COD then if you had to spend the full $89.95 for the game and keep it.

This only works if the game is given away free (like wow) and you only have to pay <$7.50/month to play.

If you actually have to pay for the game as well as the monthly pay-to-play fee, then you definitely lose out.

Now, I'm in no way supporting this method of gaming, I'm just saying it COULD (and that's a BIG could) end up costing less depending on the game cost and the monthly fee charged to play the game.

Saying all that, I hope to god that this finally kills off COD and everyone moves on to other games - COD is ruining online gaming and online gaming will never progress while COD has the support of all the fanbois.

Wow is not free, and since when is COD $90?

Because Activision has always went by what it's said...

Pay for Play CoD will succeed because 14 yr olds will spend their allowance or lunch money on it.

For me to pay for a game and then pay to play it? It would have to be steller, and I mean Earth-shattering. I mean just so ******* glorious in every imaginable way, that the whole world would spend so much time playing that they'd barely break even. And I mean everyone. If I thought they were making a decent profit, no matter how ******* amazing the game was to me, I wouldn't let them get away with it.
**** Activision. **** Blizzard. **** paying to play a game that you've already paid to own.

I would wait until we find out what the exact pricing model is.
The worst part about monthly fees is that you may never touch the game but the fee is still accumulating, so you are losing $$.

I currently spent 400 hours on MW2 multiplayer over 6 months, which comes out to 15¢/hr,
so if they would simply charge me 15¢/hour, and give me the options to purchase stuff like single player/cutscenes separately as opposed to forcing me to pay $60 for everything I wouldn't mind. Also I don't mind DLC with custom crap as long as it doesn't effect the gameplay, and as long as there is still "leet" fall camo that is only acquirable from gameplay.

Basically such pricing model would provide more flexibility for games, for example, I bought games like SC2 and BFBC2, played for hour - two and never touched them again and I feel like I got ripped off. If they only charged 15¢/hour, then I would play for couple hours and then uninstalled and only was down 30¢

Actually, WOW can be downloaded free and has a 10 day free trial before you are charged the monthly fee to continue to play - that is what I meant by free (ie. you don't pay for the dvd)

Blackops is $89.95 on steam - pretty much every new release of COD has been $89.95 - even the older mw2 is still $89.95.

Thinking about it more, if Activision put more effort in banning hackers, then I'd be more inclined to accept a monthly pay-to-play fee. But if they can not get the hackers under control, then I'll stick to dedicated servers with admins that boot hackers before the round ends.
