well yes they are crazy expensive, However If she's just gonna be typing homework up and surfing the web, she doesn't need that much space at all. Upgrading ram on laptops are easier than desktop, mainly because you don't need much force (at least that was my first experience doing so). But If she's not that "careless" than maybe a regular drive would be ok

You can get a relatively cheap used ssd on ebay. They are super easy to install too.

The performance doesnt really matter, so you can buy old generations/bad brands.
Its up to you though, as you can buy a few hard drives for the price of an ssd anyways. I would probably just use a harddrive and if she breaks it buy her a new one.

Getting an SSD just incase she is careless with it seems silly to me
I'll just tell her if I catch her being careless with it i'll take it off of her for a day or two
Tough love

Any suggestions on the RAM guys?
Although I know 1GB is a TINY amount of ram would getting another GB increase the performance that much?

seriously, that netbook will be good, at my school most people just bought the school netbooks, i bought my own and use that, the school ones use single core atoms with 1gig, my 1201n uses a dual core atom, with 2gigs, they have constant crashing, mines solid as a rock, also if you saw my post as to why mine broke, i threw mine yesterday after a row with my parents, heated much more so by the fact i had braces, which caned, and im nearlly 100% sure the HDD has gone, so yes, i would reccomend getting an ssd and upgrade the ram to 2gb, its so easy its unreal i promise you anyone can do it

In all honesty, if my sister threw the netbook at anything or anyone I would take it away from her regardless if it was broken or not
Yeah I can see how RAM would improve the performance but I am completely clueless as to what RAM to get

Any suggestions on RAM at all?
Prefer it if it was under £20, to keep it under 250
