I used my 60" DLP as a monitor for a while. The solution I ended up with was a Table Mate II TV tray, a Logitech G7, and a Logitech diNovo Edge. If you don't need very precise mouse movement, you can skip on the tray and mouse. The Edge has a little trackpad on it. It isn't the biggest, but it could possibly get the job done if your use is pretty minimal.

If you do go with the mouse and keyboard setup, there may be better and/or less expensive options out now. Shop around. The biggest thing to find was actually that TV tray for me. It's huge and isn't cumbersome.

I'm having pretty awesome results with my Microsoft wireless entertainment desktop 8000 plus a Mamba for the mouse part. Any recent wireless gaming mouse should be up to the task though. The Microsoft mouse in that set is utter crap but the backlit keyboard is the second best thing since sliced bread imo. The built in touchpad is a little small for real use but makes for a good backup mouse for the lazy days.
The DiNovo Edge was also on my list but I've found that backlit keys are really a must for darker rooms. Especially when the keys themself are black. Recently Logitech started to make some backlit wireless keyboard but I dunno what its called.
