Mod Corsiar Obsidian 650D

Hi Guys
Right I’m doing a new SB build and I was going to use my current Alienware case as I like the look of it a lot. After a little thought I decided I could probley get more money for my current system if I keep it in the Alienware case as the general public like Alienware (well that’s my thinking).

Plus I thought im buying a whole new system might as well fork out for a new case. I liked the Corsair Obsidian 800D but it’s a full tower and I only need a Mid-Tower. Luckily though i found this NEW mid-tower.

I wana Spray this electric Blue on the outside keeping the inside black. Im using this as the Asus p8p67 Pro MB has blue in it. Will keep some parts of the outside black to like the grill and bay covers.

How easy is it to take a case apart and put it back together??

Never Painted a case before so just have a few questions and just confirm my plans.

1)Clean suface with wax/grease remover
2)Sand current surface (outside only), 80 grit then 200 grit
3)Clean Surface with wax/grease remover
4)Spray Primer
5)Sand Primer with 400 grit
6)Do you give it a second primer and sand again ???
7)Matt Base Coat x 2
8)Spray clear coat
9)Wet sand with 1500 grit
10)Wet sand with 2000 grit to finish
11)Polish and Buff

Also Buying Corsair Memory vengeance 8GB (2x4) DDR3 http://www.corsair.com/vengeance-8gb-dual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cmz8gx3m2a1600c9.html
Are these heat fins removable to also paint blue as I think that would look sweet!!

Final though on the window of the case to you think it would be a good idea to drill some holes and place a 12mm fan down near the GPU bays?
I will update with pictures but the case doesn’t come out till the end of feb!! So here for waiting!!

Thanks hope people can help

If your using a primer like a self etching one I would only sand after the final primer coat. What kind of paint are you planning on using anyway? If your going with rattle can I'd just sand after final primer, if your going with a different type of paint/coating then see what the suggested prime/coat/clear process is for those products.

As for ease of disassembly and reassembly it's pretty basic. Like any other thing you take apart, just make sure you take notice of the order items go (if they share the same rivets for example) and aside from time consuming it's pretty easy.

Sounds like a pretty cool mod your doing, looking forward to the build log for it biggrin.gif
