Looking at Netbooks

My craptop of 8+ years is I believe on its last leg. It struggles with linux, so I've been looking around for a replacement. I'm shooting for <$400, and preferably with 2GB of RAM, or the ability to upgrade to that. OS doesn't matter, cause I'll slap on Linux, but I would prefer a dedicated GPU, but not Intel GPU. Intel GPU support in Linux is flaky sometimes. Battery life is flexible because it will be a work laptop, and doesn't really need to be used on the go.

I'm leaning toward Asus, and this one has caught my eye. Anyone have experience with it?

Asus 1215T-MU10
AMD Athlon II Neo K125(1.70GHz)
12.1" 1366 x 768
ATI Radeon HD 4250
2GB DDR3 (doesn't specify speed)
320GB HDD

That looks nice, but there are some n550 dual core netbooks with nvidia ion graphics for the same price on the egg.

I don't know, I'm torn. After looking at reviews for each chip, the single core k125 seems to keep up, or be slightly faster than the n550, but without the multithreading. While I'd prefer an nvidia for linux, the ion2 and hd4250 seem comparable as well.

So really, I'm sort of leaning towards the larger screen, 12.1" 1366 x 768 vs 10" 1024 x 600.

Alright here we go:

If you're willing to risk it with AMD/ATI:

This is Fusion in the right form and price but 1GB short of 2GB of RAM.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834215021

And this is actually a pretty powerful setup at 400:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834115840

Outside of that you're looking at n550 with ion.

Haven't got to test the C-50 myself but it does sound like it might be a bit slower than the n550 though it should match Ion.

It's a nice netbook but expensive. I wish it used AMD's fusion APU's.

That $400 looks nice, especially with a max of 4GB RAM, until it says the video memory is shared. Also out of stock.

It sucks because the n550/ion 12" ones get above $490. That's the setup I'd prefer.
Looking at my friend's 10" screen just seems tiny.

Linky isn't working. Most of the HP ones I see use Intel GPUs too.

Well after a closer look I'd say you'd have to dig into the $370+ price range to find an Atom setup to compete with that Fusion powered Acer. If only someone was interested in a black Asus that still gets 6hours with a non glossy screen. I think Fusion is greater than Atomic Ions anyway.

To me the 10inch isn't the problem. It's that everything is in such tiny fonts by default. It's like when I first got an 1080p monitor. I couldn't read anything because of how small the fonts were. The screen size doesn't matter that much once you work out zooming and fonts.

I think I found an excellent deal. A tad bigger than I was looking for, but good deal.
$369
Just noticed it's pretty much like the first one you linked Rookie, but with a larger screen. It's also an integrated GPU, but from videos, it doesn't seem to hurt anything.

Acer aspire AS5253-BZ660
2GB, 8 max
15.1" 1366 x 768
1GHz C-50
ATi HD 6250
DVR-RW
VGA/HMDI
~3.5 hrs battery (low but not really a deal breaker)
