What's limiting my OC?

post #1 of 17

So, using an NZXT Vulcan with ace cooling, got;

1x 120mm Intake (Front)
2x 120mm Exhaust (Roof)
1x 92mm Exhaust (Back)

Cooler is a Zalman CNPSX10 Flex with 2 Xilence 120mm Redwings @ 68CFM (Amazingly quiet, would 100% recommend)

Anyway, my 1100T is at 4ghz stable and when Prime95 testing the max it hit within 2 hours was 44.5c,

If I overclock any more than 4ghz, it fails the Prime95 after 5-10 minutes, even at 4.1ghz

I'm using a 20x Multiplier with 200 Clock and would like to know why I'm limited to only 4ghz? I'm sure this cooler could handle 4.3ghz like a breeze - it's amazing.

Motherboard; 880GM-U2DH - Is this what's limiting? Or are my multipliers/clock wrong?

Please advise me what to do - if I'm in need of a new MB, which is the best AM3 MATX Motherboard?

Did you bump the voltage? and sometimes the chip just doesnt like high Clocks and it possibly is your motherboard that is limiting it.

It's at 1.472v according to CPU-Z, more than enough to be honest.

Temp sensors on thuban can be off by 10°C, so your cores could be running at 55.5°C wich could be the cause of the instability (unlikely).

Prior to installing my new fan my thuban was telling me it was operating at 52-53c when on max loads and 0.2ghz above stock with stock fan, so I believe the temps are correct.

Those are horrible timings. Thuban's benefit more from lower timings. Not to mention their IMCs can't handle high memory speeds. Drop to 1333MHz and run at 6-6-6-20-1T.

I tried 1333mhz, 6-6-6-20-1T and my system won't boot. I've now set it to 1600mhz, 9-9-9-24-1T which is the 'stock' of Corsair Vengenace.

Anyway - how can I make this Overclock higher? (CPU)
