... hmmm ... my 2 cents is that the FX line will have the top cpu's, with blocked and unblocked multi's ... that way, yes, they will be priced higher than the lower A and E's ...

So, now we'll have ... 4 price ranges...

A
E

and then

FX Vision Ultimate ( 4 & 6 core Bulldozers, with unlocked multi's
FX Vision Black ( The 8 core beast, fully unleashed )

If they do this, it's because they really believe that the 4-6 cores of bulldozer with be as good or better than the actual Intel offer... At least, when making a price 2 performance choice.

And they will unleash the beast with the Vision Black.

Other think... this i complete new architecture... so the R&D prices were superior to the Phenoms "refresh" ... So we may find prices reflecting that...

But we must not forget, 980x ownz 6 core market with amazing performance, overclock ... but high price tag...

I, personally, would find rather "insane" to send and FX with the same price tag knowing that

a) Intel chipsets are better than AMD ones ...
b) Motherboards for Intel are way better than AMD ones ...
c) 990FX chipset is not new, and only a refresh/update of the 890FX

So lets see... I believe that the top of the line will cost about 500USD ... but that's my 2 cents and that would be the price i would give if the cpu would be really good. If not, i would go Intel without even blinking my eyes...

Some late reflexions...

If AMD readies up to sell FX-series chips, is because they know their chips are stronger than Intel's.

I can't wait to see benchmarks. AMD, you have lots of expectation on you.

Or... they have chips that, although not being as strong as intel's ... will give a similar performance, for lower price, as usual the difference is that the top end will give performance similar to the top end of Intel ...

Until now, we had the top end of AMD having similar performance to mid-range intel's ...

There's lots of possibilities you know

FX for Fusion Xtreme, A for Advanced, and E for Entry? Would make some sense, though.

That way we don't have thousands of Athlons with the e-series mixed up with regular ones, or Black phenoms mixed with regular Phenoms.... And less models after all.

Good towards general public, the easier they find to find out if it's gonna fit their needs, the more likely they'll be to buy it.

AMD is making smart moves, hope they start to kick Intel hard in the butt.
I SO WANT AMD TO OWN INTEL, big time too!

Granted they are in it for the money too, just like Intel, but they seriously need a comeback, badly...

I hope Bulldozer OWNZ...

==========================

On Topic, good move AMD, It looks like you have your thinking cap on!

My sentiments exactly!

What I see is AMD making a new serving tray, sending out this lovely girl who, holding all of the AMD CPUs on the tray, comes out from behind the bar and says...

"So who wants to try my new Core?" (*Snickers*)

Of course the fan bois on the left snap to attention and shout.. "ME ME ME ME!"

Intel fan bois suddenly go into a rush of murmers & coughing spurts... Cough *BS* COUGH COUGH *renaming conventions* cough cough
They whisper "It won't be Sandy Bridge, It will fail miserably, It probably won't be affordable."
Unsuspecting clients who just came to the bar will say, "Well, can I see your core first?" (This will get a good laugh..)

A Good analogy no?
