[Bioware] Dragon Age 2 Demo & Chat video now online - Page 2

Is it just me or does this game lack detail/props? Everything seems so empty... Also, the new UI does not fit well with a fantasy rpg imo.

I couldn't tell if it was from the video compression but the textures look bland and lacking in detail. It would appear to be a gamecube title or something.

"stab first, ask questions later" oh wow, what an awesome line. Did they have their kids pen the dialogue.

It keeps getting worse the more i watch it, like a trainwreck.

If i never saw the terrible running animations again it would be to soon. Look at me, im cool cause im running cool, and holding my weapon like a badass would if badasses really held weapons like that.
You've pretty much summed it up for me there too. I can only see this title appealing to the more younger audience. It just doesn't appear as "refined" and original as the last title, and even that needed working on. It seems to be trying too hard to be cool, thus, it's not cool. I can see the console teens lapping it up though.

In hindsight i could say i saw this coming. This isn't a title i'll be buying. Funny that alot of EA games seem to be so pants.

Thread Starter
I can understand people's dislike of Dragon Age 2 as it looks so different from Dragon Age Origins which is considered the spiritual successor to one fantastic RPG Baldur's Gate. But why not be a little more open minded? It might surprise you yet.

I'm personally looking forward to this but by the looks of things I'm in the minority But if the game is fun, enjoyable and has Bioware's storytelling that's all I care about.

Looks a lot like the first, can't wait to play this. Hope it's 60+ hours.

It looks horrible.

Yes, I was opened minded, looked at it from the bottom, from the top, and it still looks horrible.

Alright, I admit, I hated the first part pretty much since it was so ridiculously epic and cliché that it made me sick. So this is definitely effecting my opinion about this part. But as I said before, I've kept an open mind about how it might turn out, and by what I've seen so far, it looks like it's even worse.

Woop-ee-doo.

Well if you hate dragon age, you will probably hate dragon age 2. You can trash it, but you're really in the minority, and I'm not sure why you're clicking on dragon age threads. It's okay to not like fantasy RPGs, or just this franchise in specific. If you liked dragon age, I'm not sure why you would hate dragon age 2. If anything, Bioware has proven that they do sequels very well. People freaked out about some of the ME2 changes and ME2 (speaking as the majority) was a better game. Dragon age + awakening is probably in the top 5 for single player PC game experiences I've ever had dating back to linewars and Wolfenstein 3D.

I pre-ordered in October and I will definitely be playing the demo on the 22nd.

However, as a DragonAge fan, I am completely underwhelmed by the video.

If the demo is no better than the video, and I really pray it is much, much better, I likely will cancel my order.

Wow. There was one line that he said that killed me:

"Can I look cool walking around because I have a posse?"

What retarded fans wondered THAT? Who gives a crap? You look dumber in the game now than ever. They refine these games they say but its like refining a Snickers bar into pure granulated sugar. Sure it may be sweet but it lost the texture and flavor of the last one to cater to the idiots that are too dumb to know to chew their food before swallowing.

The game looks like it fell off the crap tree and hit every crappy branch on the way down before being run over by the crapmower. The damn speech responses were made on a rotational wheel because I guess people are too dumb to scroll through a bunch of them. In that case what do you go about your normal day with a few preselected responses you can give to people? Combat is all flashy and "explodey". OOOOOOH INTENSE! What does everyone hit with a hand grenade to make those explosions? And then when someone gets hit it looks like they lose half their blood supply. Maybe everyone just carries buckets of red paint around? Mages act like warriors and that bothers me to no end. They should look like they are casting spells that have weight and power behind them. Chick-Hawke looked like she was running around as Starkiller from The Force Unleashed.

This game is made for ADD kids who get spoon fed ritalin. It'd be like taking George RR Martin or Tolkien and making their works into a pop up book because the idiots need more "colorful interaction". This game has been riced out and branded as an "upgrade" in quality where it should cater to a larger audience. No it looks like the drunken clown that shows up in an Oldsmobile that tries to cater to a group of schoolkids with their fingers in their noses (don't get your nosebleeds on your helmets). I'll say it:

Dragon Age 2 is now the Call of Duty of RPG's.

i enjoyed dragon age, but it was very flawed, esp when you consider who made the game.

first of all character building was an epic fail. They allow us to assign attribute points, but really all you should do is dump them all in a single stat. They didnt allow for alternate builds to be done. Sorry, in DnD, you can make an excellent warrior from high intel/wisdom builds, as your warrior is fights smarter, not harder like a str build. Then the skill trees were terrible, they made it entirely impossible to combine skills from different trees, all you did was select another one from the tree you decided on, until you got them all, and then you get all your prestige skills.

The combat was also weak. It was designed around aggro and aoe and crowd control. Those are the the basis for covering up a weak combat system. Also no where near the depth of combat you would see in DnD.

Loot was horrendous, unless you were in massive armor, you had jack to use. Not to mention that weapons were scarce. It was horribly done, and i felt like i was playing a game from years ago. The differences between swords and axes was not there, regardless of what the "stats" said. Itemization was horrible in the game. One of the worst i have ever seen.

The world was somewhat generic, you didnt really feel like you were in it. They talk about how it was a gritty world and it was racist and all that stuff, but really they did a poor job pulling it off. Compare that to the gritty world filled with racism that the witcher did. They pulled it off.

The story was good, but not quite up to biowares usually standards. Loghain was about the only decently written character in the game. Just about everyone else in the game was your typical stereotype with no true depth to them. Sten and loghain are pretty much the exceptions. No one in the game ranks up with some of the best written characters out there though, ammon jerro and kreia.

In spite of the game not living up to baldurs gate even in the slightest, i enjoyed the game, not enough to blow money on the overpriced and low content expansion, or the weak DLC they sold.

Now dragon age 2 comes out, and seems to be taking everything i hate about gaming, and strapping it in. Generally i expect sequels to fix the errors of the game before it. They are fixing the combat, they arent fixing the story, the world lore is for the most part being ruined, look at the retconn on the qunari. Everything about the new game screams i want to sell this to 13 year olds.

With biowares potential, they should be delivering epic games. Maybe the faltered this once. I think it comes from EA's influence, and that Mythic was combined with bioware. So you have alot of philosophies from other developers getting mixed in, not to mention the fact they opened up multiple more bioware studios and hired all new people into them. So the bioware name is nothing more than a name now. Its not the same people you have seen make you every game.

I will buy dragon age 2 at a later date when the price has dropped and the dlcs are included. It is bioware and i can give them another chance at some point.
