Downloading it now and (thank god) the torrent's pretty fast. Let's see what they've been up to.

It's pretty awesome though that you can also play it online. I really can't wait

I wish people would stop trying to justify piracy to themselves with flimsy excuses and rationalizations. If you are going to pirate, at least have the balls to call it what it is: stealing. Arguments like "oh, I wouldn't have bought it anyway" and "they don't deserve the money because the game isn't good" are ridiculous; most people WOULD buy the games if there wasn't an option to pirate it and just claim otherwise to justify it to themselves. If it's not worth your money, there's an easy answer: just don't play it.

Pirates/Hackers ruin everything.

I'm a CS major and my focus will be game development(graphics programming, physics, game code, and A.I), and I can tell you right now that I won't be developing PC-exclusive titles. I will be using XNA to create 360 games. Perhaps I'll develop a cross platform title with OGL support for Linus users - I'm sure they would appreciate gaming more and not take it for granted.

It would be nice to make a game with two render paths/APIs like in the olden days

The problem is that YOU don't get to decide who gets what coin and who doesn't.

The only way YOU can voice your opinion is to not support that entity.

i would agree with the argument that piracy is immoral if the idea behind selling the games to rape peoples pockets wasnt the case... if companies made games for people to enjoy and release finished products that dont need a new patch every two days for something or other because they rushed it out the door to hurry up and make billions off of crap

so whine about my opinion if you want its only an opinion and everyone has one people from different walks of life have different perspectives

What? If its not good, then dont' buy it. There are so many sites that review games. Read before you buy.

Bottom line is that no there is no excuse for pirating. It is illegal, and immoral.

There is no way to prove that if people couldn't download a video game illegally, that they would pay for it from a store. It is more likely people are stingy with their money and buy select block buster titles. People are also tired of getting burned.

Want to make money? Stop making crap and develop some respect by releasing great content. I.E. Valve, Blizzard, Take-Two. Then people would gladly pay for services rendered.

Piracy is illegal, but I don't see as entirely immoral. $60 for games that are half as good as games of yesteryear is legal, but I don't see that entirely moral.
Just like you can't prove it's doing much damage to the PC industry, you also can't shrug it off and lump pirates into the "wouldn't have bought it anyway" group.

Also, whether a game is good or bad and how it compares to other games is entirely subjective. Time, money and manpower still went into making these games and they'll charge the standard price for it. You don't get things on the cheap just because you didn't like it as much as the next guy.

If that's how things worked then I'd have a room full of very expensive objects that I didn't really care for.

jesus guys, don't you even bother looking at the front page news before putting up news articles. This is already literally the top story on OCN right now -- has been for 6 hours.

The proof is the responsibility of the claimer. I didn't shrug anything off, it was to prove a point and that is if someone pirated a game, you can't prove they were a potential sale gone awry. Therefore, your conclusion you have lost money is wrong.

You all must have me confused with a pirate. I have paid for all my games.

With the exception of WoW, Starcraft II, and FFXIV, you can find the rest here:

A Calculus e-book being smuggled online to Uzbekistan, to a group of students in a makeshift school, is something I don't have a problem with, but those are my own morals.

I can see the good in just about anything.

I have paid for all my games. I was pointing out that pirates are not the reason video games are bad, or poorly developed in the first place. Its an excuse of lazy developers, or those who are ill-funded for the project being marketed.

I will be paying for Crysis 2, and I will not be downloading this beta, as I believe it will tarnish the game in my mind.
