yes you do, there is 4 screws on the current plate there just unscrew them, i jsut installed one recently on my am3 board, next after that make sure the fan isnt on teh cooler it will give you soooooo much problems. after that line up the backplate with the holes left from your old backplate there should be 4, during this i thought was the hardest part, once the backplate is attached you can put your thermal paste down on your processer / heatsink, from there place the 212 on the processer and than take the retentionar clip open it up once and line it up with the little hole on your 212 base right above were the processer sits, from there tighten them down and your good to go
the instructions are very bad.
edit* ill get a couple of pics for you of what it should look likehttp://img534.imageshack.us/i/dsc0129rn.jpg/http://img689.imageshack.us/i/dsc0127pi.jpg/http://img143.imageshack.us/i/dsc0132p.jpg/
sorry about img quality but i hope it helps make a little more sense, make sure when installing the backplate the little leg / lifters are not on the board.Edited by Lq Cloud - 2/11/11 at 11:53pm
