I have a G9x that I use on a Ripper XL Xtrac Pad. In my opinion, it suits my claw grip and I think the motion is smooth as butter, but I will offer up two things that are slight negatives until you get use to the mouse. One, the button for changing the DPI setting sits just under the left mouse button and it was awkward after coming from a Sidewinder X8 where the DPI buttons are located on the centerline. Two, and this can still cause an occasional problem, the mouse wheel is very stiff. I use this as a melee button and sometimes when trying to melee the button will roll (path of least resistance) instead of depress. This means up can end up swapping weapons in close quarters at a very bad time......you can imagine the outcome. Also, I have a MX518 that is similar in shape to the G500. I can't comment on how the features compare, but I definitely prefer the G9x over the MX518. Again, it's just an opinion and it's all subjective. Good luck.

so my choice right now is between Steelseries Xai and Logitech G9x

I see.. sorry to hijack, thanks for the info.

I love my g9, I also, like the OP used the IME 3.0 I loved it because it was low DPI (IIRC, 800 DPI) and I loved it, but I basically 'became' a claw-grip style FPS-er

If I remember correctly, G9 is up to 3200 dpi and G9x is up to 5000 dpi. It might have been the only difference......but definitely look that one up.

so my choice right now is between Steelseries Xai and Logitech G9x
which one is better for claw grip?
Xai Pros:

-Balanced weight, shape, and center of gravity.
-Sensor position is dead center.

Xai Cons:
-1 year warranty to North America from purchase date.
-The Avago 9500 found in the Xai utilizes an SROM setup to work in CPI steps of 90.

450/900/1800 are fairly common CPI values. Of course, you can go 90 counts higher or lower if you so do desire.

(Ex: 450, 540, 630... 1800, 1890, 1980 and so on)

All other CPI values are interpolated and hinder sensor performance.

G9x Pros:
-3 Year Warranty to North America from purchase date.
- SROM is designed in steps of 100, no known performance issues.

G9x Cons:
-Larger and potentially heavier ( I'm unsure)
-Off center sensor position.

Simularities:

Both utilize the same Avago ADNS-9500 laser sensor.

G9 has negative acceleration past the perfect control rate.

G9x/Xai have 5-10% positive acceleration flaw. (Shouldn't effect you as a normal claw user)
