I am a claw grip and the G9 is my favorite mouse so far. It's very comfortable and perfect for claw/fingertip grips.

-The Avago 9500 found in the Xai utilizes an SROM setup to work in CPI steps of 90.

450/900/1800 are fairly common CPI values. Of course, you can go 90 counts higher or lower if you so do desire.

(Ex: 450, 540, 630... 1800, 1890, 1980 and so on)

All other CPI values are interpolated and effect sensor performance.

G9x Pros:
-3 Year Warranty to North America from purchase date.
- SROM is designed in steps of 100, no known performance hindering issues.

G9x Cons:
-Larger and potentially heavier ( I'm unsure)
-Off center sensor position.

Simularities:

Both utilize the same Avago ADNS-9500 laser sensor.

Sensor.

G9: Avago ADNS-6090
G9x: Avago ADNS-9500
im very sorry but what does SROM means and how it will affect my gaming?

i really really wanted to pull the trigger for the g9x now but the reviews i am seeing is holding me back

i read this review and it says that the G9x is not balanced and has very bad design and overall build quality

I beg to differ, I claw grip my Xai fine, works great. G9x or Xai would be your best bet, the RAT's hand grip is annoying to say the least, the weight is not balanced properly in my opinion.

I've been using a G9 for a year now and it has lasted very well, even surviving several drops unscathed. It's quite comfortable and I find the side buttons are very well placed. The weights are nice, as I like a heavy mouse with the dpi set low, but I know I'm courting an RSI.

My only beef with it is that using the middle button (clicking the scroll wheel) needs a LOT of force. The wheel can also be nudged left and right, and those functions are much more easy and responsive, so I just use those instead. I don't know if this has been fixed in the G9x.

The Xai looks like a nice choice if you want something subtle that doesn't scream XTREME GAMER MOUSE to visitors.

It's gonna be a personal preference thing. I've used both extensively and I went with the Xai. I just find it to be more balanced, it's lighter and just fits me better than the G9. Plus, the G9's I have all went south on me within 6 months. The mouse wheel's started skipping and the grips started loosening which causes them to rattle and makes them annoying. I don't know if they still stock the Xai at Bestbuy, but that's a place to check. Their return policy is very lenient so you can essentially buy them to try there.

The SROM is basically the BIOS/Firmware of the sensor. The Avago 9500 found in the Xai differs from the Avago 9500 found in the G9x/G500 since they load different step up values.

IE:
Logitech mice = 200-5700 in 100 step increments.
Xai = Up to 5001/5040 in increments of 90. All other CPI values are interpolated by the MCU or "brain" of the mouse.

Anyway, It pretty much boils down to preference in this situation.

If you really want the G9x, go for it. There's a 3 year warranty and if anything goes wrong they'll cover you without hesitation.

the rat 7 is great for a claw grip user. that's what grip i have during gaming and the rapid-fire buttons allow for good mouse clicks on every part of the left and right clicks no matter where your fingers are. DPI adjustments also go in increments of 25 which is really nice for fine tuning and the precision aim button has the same amount of functionality. i've only used a g9x for a little on a friends computer and personally i didn't like how it's DPI settings were done. 3 programming modes and 4 dpi options are great . the software to program it is also top notch so if you're looking for that kind of customizability i'd go the rat7 route.
