[GamersMint] Will Apple be the death of handheld gaming? - Page 7

Didn't read the article, nor the full thread =D But what I did listen to(was listening to weekend confirmed=) was a couple numbers from EA, and they stated that around >bleh don't quote me, mind if fuzzy< 40% of their mobile games were played from home, and around 10%, I think it was, was actually played "on the road" how these numbers were gotten, dunno. Gonna assume they took a peek at wireless and 3g/whatever g stats.

But as far as op/article, there's plenty of apple haters alone to fill the space for more mobile platforms.

If your reply was that it would matter, that would just mean that the cost of these tablets DOES indeed affect their opinion , regardless of how appealing apple's products might be , then i see no point in apple having 'world wide appeal' if their products doesn't sell.

If it does indeed offer "near identical" components , then most people would go for the cheapest in this case. But there must be reason for its price tag no?

I have no qualms about that since it was a marketing tool from the start to encourage you to buy their other devices. The only edge they have is that its simple and easy to use per say , though it is also their downfall. With a streamlined experienced comes at a cost of a streamlined package , there is no 'reward' for messing around with what they have.Getting back on topic , this would mean one of few things:

-limited options
-default OS
-no cross platform integration

and a few more others. This would mean that devs would have to work in compliance to how apple wants it to work and as you can see , there is already enough trouble with mac gaming already. As mentioned in the article , there are reasons why they were doing so well and yet not so well. Why? because a device with the capable hardware is nothing without the , ala free use of software and hence you are pretty much the prime target audience for apple(due to said bolded statement) so if you like it , good for you.
I'm sorry, maybe it's late or I'm just tired, but I'm having a super hard time understanding your post. It's largely incoherent to me. Not trying to use it as a cop out, I just can't get through your grammar. The only part I understood was your first line, which is something I didnt do. I'm pretty sure I made my opinion clear with my last post. G'night.

I said that in the last page , substance over style.Like i said , most , this is why as a tech , from experience , i build a few times more i3s and phenom duo/quads more than your i5 , i7 and hexacores. Its that most people prefer the cheap(in comparison) way out when it comes to tech , but doesn't mind spending more for things(when confronted with the decision) like compatibility as ForumViewer said.

Comparing appstore games to NDS / PSP games is like comparing playing Foosball to real soccer.

I'm a BlackBerry guy, but I'm not going to lie. When in class I whore off my cell phone for a chance to play angry birds on an android or iPhone. I'm not sure if apple will dominate the market for gaming, seeing the way Android phones are, but i can assure you they have little competition

If you're trying to get across that Apple is a luxury in and of itself, then why do they offer a MP3 player that starts at $49. Regardless of what people can afford, it's rare that I see MP3 players that aren't Touch's, Nano's, or iPhones. It's $9 for a refurb iPhone 3GS, or $49 for a brand new one at the phone store. The Touch's lowest offering can be had close to $200, and the cheapest Nano is $149. Regardless, people that I know can't afford that everyday luxury still go with getting an iPod because besides it being 'hipster garbage', they know it works.

handhelds were very cool in 2005

for now, I think my gaming can wait until I get home.

Still sporting a Razr personally. It's absolute crap for most games. It's a phone, I call people on it.

More on topic I think that there is indeed a quickly growing casual games trend, but those of us in the hardcore side are unlikely to be that seriously affected. There will always be a need for distraction games, but those games don't have any substance. They're simple brainless titles. There will never be any mods for them, or epic video montages, or entire clans devoted to playing them for days on end. None of the unforgettable experiences we enjoy as gamers are likely to occur on a iphone while we're sitting on the bus with some homeless man screaming obscenities across the way.

Personally I just don't think it matters what Apple does, their market has no depth.

I'm somewhat bored of it now, but they're still going to release all that new content (levels, monsters, etc.) so I'll have plenty more to play. I made a super tank on my iPad with 10k hp but it took too long to kill stuff after a while, so I made my super damage guy on my iPhone.
You poured a ton of time into the game clearly, which I can only see a few people doing because the game is rather shallow.

Somewhat, I can dodge, parry, block, and perform different combo's on monsters. It'll be fun doing this against other players, and of course in new levels.
Remember Epic Citadel? The walk around demo? It looked brilliant and, we got to walk around
That's just it. Epic Citadel was a demo. It had no AI, there was nothing that the hardware processed at all aside from the graphics, there was no interaction. It just looked pretty. It's the same as 3DMark. 3DMark looks great, but you never see any games that actually look like it.

In Infinity Blade, when you're playing, you're plagued with FPS drops. You have to ask yourself why when the game looks somewhat worse than Epic Citadel and you can't even walk around. It's because the software is doing alot more than just rendering things.

Quote:
I never said I considered those ones "real games". I'm talking about Infinity Blade, etc., and games that will come out with as good as graphics.
Well graphics aren't everything, but then again none of the games aside from Infinity Blade look good graphically. Everything is pretty piss poor. Controls too.

Quote:
I'm thinking an MMO where you can play online, walk around, kill stuff, quest, but with IB graphics.
That's just it. It wouldn't be possible with IB graphics. You can't walk around IB as it is, yet alone do anything aside from 1 of like 5 primary animations without terrible FPS drops during a fight. How can you expect anyone to develop an MMO that has multiple instances of players and enemies, as well as exploration with something like IB?
Heck, Battlefield Bad Company 2 has 8 v 8 multiplayer and it barely works. Barely. Good for a few rounds, if you can connect to people who aren't like 1/2 around the world in the middle of a tunnel or something, but plays horribly.

$9 for a refurbished iPhone 3GS? $50 for a new one? I don't believe either for a second. Even with a 2 year contract (which nullifies your point all together).

I know alot of stuff that works if not better than an iPod. The only reason people buy iPods is because they're Apple. Apple tax is a real thing.
