Weird temps

Thread Starter
Hey guys, upgraded to a Phenom II X4 955 from a Phenom II X2 the other day and having weird temp monitoring problems.

My old temp was around 31 at idle with a 2 year old fan that was dusty as hell in a 7 year old case with horrible airflow.

I got a new case 690 II Advanced, no cables in the way and have a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler Rev2 installed with the new CPU and my idle temp yesterday on a hot day was really weird, was jumping erratically between 42 up to 57 at one point with nothing running, was 65c at load.

Today on a rainy day idle it's been between 36 and 44, it can never seem to stay stable, it was on 36 and i opened firefox, just firefox, and it jumped up to 45 and while i've been typing this went down to 38 and back up to 41, ran Prime95 and was at 60-62c.

Using Core Temp and HWMonitor.

I've reset CMOS, reseated the HSF with no changes, i've ordered some Arctic Silver 5 to try that but was after suggestions what it could be.

I've never had a CPU that was so all over the place in temps, in the past it's been stable at a certain idle temp and at a load temp, not jumping around.

Mine does that too. Ive never fixed it though. Ive tried remounting, changing heatsinks, and changing thermal compound but it still jumps around whenever it feels like it. Its weird

maybe theres a spot thats losing contact. Post it if you ever figure it out Im gonna try to remount the heatsink once more too.

Man that would drive me crazy. Its gotta be the temperature sensors either they're busted or not playing nice with your mobo. Your mobo manufacturer "may" be able to help.

I've got a Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P.

Worked fine with the X2, maybe it just hates the X4?

I dunno but it's definetly driving me crazy lol

Really don't like seeing 60+c load temps.

Sometimes there's nothing you can do. I love Ubuntu but I can't get accurate temps on my hardware no matter what I do...so I deal with it.

Have you tried the latest bios version?

Updated BIOS.

Still jumping around but not as bad.

Going between 36-40c idle.

Played some CSS and went up to 58c.

I'll find out on a 35c+ scorching day whether the temps are correct or the sensor is a bit off, it's currently 19c outside.

But it's working fine so i'll live with it, got some Arctic Silver 5 on the way to me at the moment so i'll try that and see what happens.
