Thread Starter
I had this idea for a "real" all-in-one mod. And by "all-in-one" I mean the mod will encompass the following:
  • one of my already owned m-itx, pico-itx or m-atx motherboards (specs don't really matter, more on that below)
  • ~5 port switch
  • power strip
  • monitor (cheap 13" or whatever LCD)
  • some form of combo keyboard/mouse

The goal was to create a "mobile pxe station". Something I could carry with me, set down and be pxe booting/installing an OS relatively quickly to ~4 PCs at once. I was going to use my pico-itx board (the pico has been collecting dust for years).

At one point I was going to use this old school power strip I don't think they sell any more. It has a bunch of "rocker" switches on front and five or so power out lets on the back (it was made to be a shelf for a CRT monitor) and everything could be powered off from there. I was going to put the pico-itx, 5-port-switch and new powerstrip inside the casing of this old power strip (it's pretty big, I'll see if I can find a pic in the morning).

But that's not very creative or interesting. So...

I'm requesting some feedback from the OCN community. Any ideas on how to create this motherboard-switch-powerstrip-monitor combo device of coolness? Or is it a bad idea...? Any ideas quite welcome.

The monitor (which I guess could be optional) would be for one or more of the client machines not necessarily for the pico-itx. I'm thinking once the PxE software is setup I won't really need to use a monitor on it (and I can SSH to it if it comes to that anyway). Perhaps an integrated KVM...?

I don't actually have any ideas or requirements beyond functional and some how easy to carry.

If it helps at all I have an old "UFO" apple airport as well as a hollowed out "classic" black/blue linksys router although how either of those things could contribute I have no idea...
