New Sandy Bridge gaming RIG– any suggestions?

Thread Starter
Hi guys, I’m looking for a nice balance of: 1.Power/2.Price(but for high end)/3.Noise/4.OC. In my opinion below mentioned spec should be a good choice but you have probably more experience. Do you have any better suggestions? It will be my new gaming RIG. Is there any new, interesting hardware coming soon (max. 2-3 weeks) which can be a better alternative?
  • CPU:Intel Core i5-2500K Tray, LGA1155
  • Cooler: Scythe Mugen 2 Rev. B Hardware Edition (only air cooling)
  • Mobo: ASUS P8P67 PRO, Sockel 1155
  • RAM: 8GB-Kit Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHz CL8 (2x4GB)
  • Case:Cooler Master 690 II LITE Midi-Tower - PURE Black Edition
  • PSU: Corsair 650HX, 650 Watt (I don’t planning any multi-GPU upgrade in the future)
  • GPU: MSI N570GTX Twin Frozr II (no OC version, I’ll do some OC later)
  • HDD: Caviar Black 640GB SATA 3 WD6402AAEX or 2x Samsung SpinPoint F4 HD322GJ 320 GB in RAID0 (SSD are too expensive at this moment, but I’ll probably upgrade to SSD later)

Monitor: HP24Z - 24" 16:10 aspect ratio sRGB IPS monitor, 1200 x 1920 (already purchased)

Looks like for gaming, what you have picked is a solid build. Some people like the Samsung drives for their price/performance. I personally still prefer WD Caviar Black since I've bought 6 of their drives over various time frames and all 6 are still running with no problems.

you'll love the 690II advanced I just picked one up it's a nice case. Make sure to grab a few extra fans for it.

I would just stick with the single black HDD. SSD are slowly coming down in price, you can grab a good 64GB often for under 100$.

Also, if you are building for gaming I would suggest going with 4gb of RAM with good timings. 8gb is really overkill. Save 50$ and maybe spring for an SSD now.
