Time for a new mobo!

Thread Starter
Hey all. I'll try to keep this as direct as possible:

I need a new motherboard.
I will be overclocking.
I will be gaming.
I may be getting new RAM.
My budget is $100-120ish, including shipping hopefully.

Anybody have suggestions?

Get the board in my sig rig. It may cost more than 100$ (no time to check newegg now, gotta leave soon) .......... so you can get the m4a88td-m-evo. You will get everything you are asking for. nice vrm cooler, handles oc nicely, sata3 and usb 3. As for ram, try searching for gskill 1600mhz cas 9 (i dont think cas 7 will fit the budget here). Suggesting gskill because it handles OC better than XMS3, have used them both on many PCs. Best of luck.

I've got an evo board right now (785g chipset) and it really isn't handling overclocking very well, can barely hit 3.6, and it won't even boot past 260 FSB.

Would the 880 chipset version handle it differently?

880g is the next best thing to 890fx/gx. Actually this board performs better than the 890gx one, just lacks the 8x crossfire capability. I have reached a stable 4.1ghz with it. my processor was 955be c3. You might have a lil trouble cause yours is not a black edition cpu, but with a lil tweak you can land a 4ghz oc.

and the word 'evo' means nothing, just some stpid word to promote its oc capabilities. this board also sports 8+2 power phase design and has northbridge overvoltage protection.

Wouldnt it be better to wait for BD? Since BD will be able to use previous AMD sockets anyway... Does your current mobo hold you down that you have to change it?

Not sure to be honest, last time i've read about BD, every date is still a rumour... maybe somebody here can enlighten us ^_^

but in my opinion.. if you can wait and your current mobo is still in perfect working condition and its not holding you down.. then i say wait. $100-$150 is still a lot of money..

So, 1-4 months.

Sounds like long enough to be worth waiting, hehe.

Also means I can save a little more money up so that I can actually afford the newest socket...And potentially even a new processor, hehe.

BD will require the new AM3+ sockets, will not work in current boards.
